Micah 5:2

When you think of the "Perfect Christmas" what comes to mind? That perfect gift. An elaborately decorated house. A snow covered landscape. Yummy Christmas cookies.

In reality the perfect Christmas started out in a smelly, dirty, cave full of animals; a baby boy entering the world covered in bloody water, crying and hungry and impossibly born to a young virgin. He became Immanuel. God. With. Us!

He grew to be a boy playing with his siblings, doing his chores and probably learning a carpenter's trade. He was an ordinary man with an extraordinary calling on his life. When did He truly understand what His Father had planned for Him? When did He realize His humanity was unlike any person before or since?

The Spirit rested on Him giving him wisdom, understanding, counsel, strength and knowledge for the unimaginable fulfillment of prophecy. He carried our sickness, was pierced for our sin. He endured the punishment that made us whole.

Those same gifts of wisdom, understanding, counsel & strength are ours for the taking and are better than any we can receive from anyone we love as a gift this Christmas. As Christians we each have a call on our lives to share the light with those walking in darkness. We all have people we know, and often love dearly, that haven't made that decision to follow Jesus. As we look to the advent of His second coming, when He will subdue and restore all things, may we walk in His light, splitting the darkness for the lost around us.
