Sermon Title: Criteria (Lk 17:11-19)
Lk 17:11-19
11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee.
12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance
13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”
14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.
15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice.
16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.
17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?”
19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

Bottom Line
A maturing faith is marked by thankfulness.
Questions
1) At the start of the sermon, Pastor Gavin said, "The older I get, the more criteria there are to meet." 1) When have you encountered criteria in your life? Did you meet them? Fail? Exceed them? 2) When have you created criteria for others?
2) In Genesis 17:11, Jesus was traveling through Samaria and The Galilee on his way to Jerusalem. In other words, he was traveling through the "Danger Zone." Most people would have thought something was wrong with Jesus for taking this route. 1) Why is that? 2) Has there ever been a time in your life where you had to enter into the "Danger Zone," especially on Jesus' behalf, and do the hard thing? How did or didn't it work out for you?
3) In the story, we read about 10 lepers who were cleansed, but only 1 came back thank Jesus. We don't get an answer as to why the other 9 did not return but, Pastor Gavin suggested that maybe they did not return because they were actually obeying Jesus. Share your thoughts on this. Were they being obedient or not?
4) The Bottom Line this week was “A maturing faith is marked by thankfulness.” 1) When you hear that, What does it make you think about? 2) Do you agree or disagree?
5) Toward the end of the sermon, Pastor Gavin told the story of the blind boy and his sign. The words on the sign at the beginning of the story said, "I am blind, please help." After the man changed the wording at the end of the story, the boy's sign said, "Today is a beautiful day, but I cannot see it." Both signs spoke the truth but the second sign conveyed to everyone walking by how grateful they should be to see. Can you relate? At times in life, do you often miss the moments where you should be thankful? Share your thoughts.
