These questions are provided for your further study and application of today’s sermon: Thoughtfully writing out the answers to these questions will help to drive home the truths we are learning:
Large Group
1. Was there any passage of scripture or statement in the message today that was particularly meaningful or applicable to you?
2. How passionate are you for the Gospel? When Paul was heading to Jerusalem he stopped to encourage the Elders of Ephesus. Read Acts 20:18-24. How passionate was Paul for the Gospel? Rephrase verse 24 in your own words? How can you increase your passion for the Gospel?
3. Read Philippians 1:27-28. After Paul’s instruction to strive for the faith of the gospel he tells them not to be frightened by their opponents. Why was that so important, or even necessary? What does opposition to the Gospel look like today, here? How can we strive together for the Gospel standing firm in the face of these kinds of opposition?
4. Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, had his life radically transformed by the Gospel. If you are a believer, so have you. Read 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. Who else do you know has been saved, (rescued, delivered, made new, transformed, freed, etc.) by the gospel? How does the testimony of a changed life encourage you to be faithful to the gospel?
5. Don’t skip this question. Take time to think, pray, and talk about it. What is our church’s strategy for proclaiming the Gospel as part of our mission to Make Disciples? What are some potential strategies we should put in place, considering the uniqueness of our congregation and the context of the West End?
