Temple Imagery
1 Corinthians 3:16-17
Ephesians 2:20-22
2 Corinthians 6:16
Pastor Jerry Koller
· The third chapter of 1 Corinthians deals with divisions within the church.
· These divisions were expressed through quarrelling and jealousy.
· In response, Paul reminds the church of how they came to Christ in the first place.
Then Paul uses a metaphor to illustrate that the church is not many separate divisions but that it is one.
A temple is a building or a place that was set apart for the worship of a deity.
· The city of Corinth had a temple dedicated to Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love.
In the OT, the Tabernacle was a constant reminder of God’s presence.
· King David planned to build a permanent structure in which God’s presence would dwell.
· Just because God’s presence would dwell in the temple does not mean God’s presence was limited to the temple.
· The temple is sacred.
· All saints are God’s temple.
· There is one temple.
The church is one church and she is...
Jesus is the head of the Church.
Contrasts:
· righteousness vs. wickedness
· light vs. darkness
· Christ vs. Belial (devil)
· believer vs. unbeliever
In verse 16, we find one more contrast: the temple of God vs. the temple of idols.
What is unique about this relationship? God said:
· I will put my dwelling place among you.
· I will walk among you.
· I will be your God
· And you will be my people.
APPLICATION
God’s People
· If you are in Christ, you are a part of God’s people.
God’s Temple
· If you are in Christ, you are a part of God’s temple.
God Dwells With-In Me
· God the Holy Spirit dwells in you for He also dwells in the church—of which you are a part.
Honor God
· You are to honor God with your bodies—with your lives.

Got Candy?

Aftermath Begins 10/24

Sunday, 10/24 | After Worship | Upstairs

Aftermath (definition): The outcome of an event especially as relative to an individual.

During our Worship Service, we spend time together examining various passages of Scripture. Near the end of this time, general application is made as to how the Scripture can be applied to our lives. At best, the application is pretty general and may be applied to one individual differently than another.

Aftermath seeks to help individuals personalize the application, for we are all uniquely different. In addition, it provides an environment in which people can help others personalize the application through suggestion and experience. It can be an effective way to live out our faith together.

Beginning October 24, we will relaunch Aftermath immediately after our Worship Service and meet each week. We will provide a light meal (such as soup) for all who attend. We will gather upstairs in the Plaza. Lunch and discussion will be limited to one hour.

Come join us for an experience that can literally change your lives!

Oktoberfest Celebration: 11/04

A Time to Give: Oktoberfest OfferingOn Sunday, November 7, we will receive a special Oktoberfest Offering.  During our morning worship service, we will have an opportunity to present a monetary gift to God in thanksgiving for His abundant blessings and in joyful celebration of being a church  who is committed to being what God wants us to be.  We will receive an extremely important Oktoberfest Offering which will be used solely for payment of our building mortgage (annually about $36,000.00).  Besides celebrating God’s goodness, our Oktoberfest Celebration will also be a time when we can recommit ourselves to fulfilling God’s calling “To Know Him and Make Him Known” and to the goal of living out our faith together.  While we continue to work with pandemic challenges, we are looking forward to what 2022 will bring as we see how God will use our building to impact the lives of others in our community.  If you are unable to join us for the service, we hope you’ll consider either mailing or making an online contribution ahead of time.  Your offering is vital to our ability to pay the mortgage.  We thank you for prayerfully considering how you can contribute.A Time of FellowshipFollowing our worship service on November 7, we will enjoy a time of food and fellowship with a Potluck Dinner.  Please bring a main/side dish AND a dessert to share that feeds at least 10-12 people.  Sign up at the link below to let us know what you’re bringing and to help avoid too many duplicate dishes. A Time to HelpIf you’re able to help with the potluck (set-up, serving, and/or clean-up), please contact Kim Collins.
