A Foundational Truth: Love must be sincere... (Romans 12:9a)
Evil is that which is opposed to God and His purposes or that which, defined from human perspectives, is harmful and non-productive.
Two categories: natural and moral evil.
· Natural evil can be described as destructive forces in nature, ranging from earthquakes and tidal waves to cancer.
· Moral evil has its source in the choices and actions of humans.
· Evil, in this context, can be characterized as individual actions taken by someone.

5 Things to Consider When Dealing with Evil:
1. Do Not Repay Evil for Evil
· See Genesis 34
· You can never love others as Jesus loves us by returning evil for evil.
· See Genesis 34
· You can never love others as Jesus loves us by returning evil for evil.
2. Be Careful to Do What is Right in the Eyes of Everybody
· Rather than repaying evil for evil, we must be more concerned about doing what is right.
· Evil can be aggressive or passive.
· Passive or aggressive evil should never be returned to those who do evil to you because God expects us to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.

How Christians treat one another has always been a sore spot to those outside the family.
· This is one of the major objections people have against the church.
· If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

3. Do Your Part in the Peace Process.
· The phrase If it is possible indicates that there may or may not be a possibility of living peacefully with everyone.
· The phrase If it is possible indicates that there may or may not be a possibility of living peacefully with everyone.
4. Never Take Revenge
· Taking revenge elevates you to the position of judge and jury.
· You judge, condemn, pass judgment, and carry that judgment out.
· Taking revenge elevates you to the position of judge and jury.
· You judge, condemn, pass judgment, and carry that judgment out.
Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath.
· He will judge righteously. We cannot.
· He will judge righteously. We cannot.
5. Love Fervently
If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.
· This is a metaphorical statement that means when you seek to bless instead of taking revenge and repaying evil for evil, your love may result in conviction
· It may open the door to repentance and reconciliation.

God does not expect us to eradicate evil.
· Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
· Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
APPLICATION
Are you overcoming evil with good?
· It will be easier to do if we live in community, as One Body, as each member exercises their gift for the common good.
· It will be easier if we exercise compassion with our brothers or sisters when they fall into sin.
· As we help restore them, as we help them bear their load so that they do not become crushed under the weight of their sin, we practice doing good.
· The more we practice, the better we become at overcoming evil with good.
· It will be easier if we work at keeping our tongues under control so that they are not a source of evil.
· Together let us overcome evil with good.

Church Picnic TODAY!
Please plan to join us at Bumbleberry Acres TODAY at 1:00 pm for an old fashioned Picnic Lunch. Meat, beverages and table service will be provided. Please bring a side dish or dessert to pass. Unfortunately, we were unable to locate a square dance caller so we’ll just enjoy the sunshine, food and yard games. We’ll have tables and chairs for the mealtime, but bring a lawn chair as well if you’d like. We will need help after church to transport tables and chairs to Bumbleberry - please meet in the gym right after the service if you’re able to help load.
