Looks (blepo) is a present participle and refers to the continuous process of looking.
“Sow a thought and reap an act. Sow an act and reap a habit, Sow a habit and reap a character. Sow a character and reap a destiny.”
The solution to sexual impurity cannot be external because the cause is not external.
In Jewish culture, the right eye and right hand represented a person’s best and most valuable abilities. The right eye represented one’s best vision, and the right hand one’s best skills.
Jesus’s point is we should be willing to give up whatever is necessary, even the most cherished things we possess, if doing so will help protect us from evil.
v29: If your right eye causes you to stumble
v30: And if your right hand causes you to stumble
Do you know what causes you to stumble?
If you know where you stumble, you can protect yourself in advance.
-Be poor in spirit, so you can pursue being pure in heart.
-Be quick to confess a stumble.
-Allow full accountability in all areas of your life. -
-You never “Got This”
-Your plan for purity has to be covered with prayer and obedience.
