Colossians – Jesus Reigns and Rescues

This is our theme: “Jesus Reigns and Rescues!”

Our theme verse is Col 2:9-10 “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.” NIV

The primary reason Paul wrote this letter was to declare two things: the deity and supremacy of Jesus Christ.

The circumstance which prompted the writing of Colossians seemed to be the special heresy that arose there.
(1) It was Jewish
(2) It was philosophical

(3) It involved the worship of angels
(4) It was exclusivistic

Paul recognized the believers in the church had 6 characteristics, today we can recognize if our church is great if it has these 6 characteristics:
1. _____ in Jesus. V.4

2. ____ for each other.
3. Recognition that heaven was storing up ____ for them (v. 5)- applauding them.

4. Sowing seeds and Bearing _____ for Christ. v.6
5. Growing in _____. (v.6)

6. ____ based in the Holy Spirit. (v. 8)

Because the Holy Spirit loved this church, He had Paul praying for 6 things every believer needs:
1. Gaining the _____ of his will.

2. Bearing _____ in every good work.
3. ______ in the knowledge of God.

4. Reaching for His ________ “with all power.”
5. Walking in the knowledge we’ve been ________ for his kingdom of light – heaven.

6. living in the ______ that we have been rescued & redeemed from our sin!
