Expectation, Perseverance, and Strength
Romans 12:12
Pastor Jerry Koller
Foundational Truth: Love must be sincere…(Rom. 12:9a).
3 Responsibilities:
1. Joyful/Rejoicing
· The most common translation of this verb is rejoice (33x).
To rejoice means to express great or ecstatic joy.
In Hope—a feeling that some desire may be fulfilled.
· There is an element of uncertainty.
In this instance, hope is a certainty.
What is the blessed hope? It is the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ!
2. Patient/Persevere
· (be) patient in affliction. (NIV)
· to abide; to not recede or flee
· persevering under misfortunes and trials in order to hold fast to one's faith in Christ
· to endure, to bear bravely and calmly: ill treatments
Affliction here means oppression, tribulation, or distress, things in general that cause suffering because of some kind of adversity.
Persevering in tribulation, as the NASB translates it, is a continuous process.
3. Faithful in Prayer
· Faithful means to steadfastly giving attention or care to something or someone.
· Faithful is characterized by fidelity, loyalty, allegiance
· It can mean to persevere and not to faint.
Devoted to prayer (NASB)
It can mean constant or persistent. Be constant in prayer (ESV)
Prayer is a verbal or mental form of communication between a person and God.
· Prayer is an act of worship.
· Prayer recognizes God for who He is.
· Prayer reflects our total dependence on Him and His desire for us.
Examples
· Prayer will help us persevere through adversity.
· Prayer will help us rejoice in hope.
· Prayer will help us keep our spiritual fervor.
· Prayer will help us honor one another.
· Prayer will help us become devoted to one another in brotherly love.
· Prayer will help us cling to what is good and hate what is evil.
· Prayer will help us exhibit a sincere love—to God and to one another. It will help us love others as Jesus loves us.
Prayer is the aspect of strength.
· Our relationship with God is strengthened through prayer.
· Our worship of God is strengthened through prayer.
· Our reliance on God is strengthened through prayer.
· Our submission to God is strengthened through prayer.
APPLICATION
Do you live your lives in a spirit of expectation?
How do you handle affliction or adversity?
How is your prayer life?

Can You Help?

We need a few people to help with the Memorial Service Luncheon for Paula Chambers (mother of Tina Dell) on Saturday, 8/28. The catered lunch needs to be picked up from Maria's Restaurant at 10:45am and then help is needed with serving the food buffet style as well as making drinks, clean-up, etc. Volunteers would be needed from approximately 11:00am-2:00pm. If you're able to serve in this way, please contact Kim ASAP. Thank you!

Nursery Update | Helpers Needed

Our nursery is open! We are using the Infant Room (located across from the main women's bathroom). We have almost all new toys and will keep things fully separated from the daycare's stuff. Used toys will be sanitized every week to help prevent the spread of germs.
· RIGHT NOW: We need one person to serve on Sunday, 8/15 in order to fill our August & September schedule.
· FUTURE SCHEDULES: Volunteers are needed to serve on a rotating basis, hopefully once every 6-8 weeks.
· CAN YOU HELP? If you’re willing to serve in this manner, please contact Kim in the church office as soon as possible.

Flower Bed Maintenance Needed

We need help maintaining the church’s flowerbeds. Feel free to stop by the church at your convenience and pull weeds from whatever flowerbed catches your eye. If you contact us in advance, we can arrange for the shed to be open so you can get tools; otherwise feel free to bring your own.

· Riley Marshall who will be at Lake Ann Camp August 2-8. His mom Tracy says, “This is a big leap of faith for us because we never know how Riley will handle situations like this given his mood disorder diagnosis and behavioral challenges we still continue to face. We are leaving it in the Lord's hands and trusting in the very capable staff at Lake Ann. And please pray that I can overcome my worries, and not be on alert for a phone call all week. This mama struggles with her fears. We are excited to see what God can reveal to him at camp and pray that he can draw closer to the Lord.”
· Tim Sullivan has been diagnosed with Coronary Artery Disease. He is 30 years old and has been predicted to have a potentially deadly heart attack within 5 years. Please pray for healing for him and peace for both him and his wife, Esther, as they are expecting their second child this fall and are trying to sort through what their future may look like.
· Loretta Pollard (mother of Susan Seitz) has been placed in a nursing home.
· Jepthe Lucien is okay following the assassination of the president and uprising that is occurring in Haiti, although is unable to travel to Port O' Prince because it is too dangerous. Please pray for his and his family's safety, their ministry, and the country during this time of upheaval.
· Linda Rooker is recovering from a successful hip replacement surgery. Pray for a speedy healing and minimal pain.
· Taylor Brown (12 year-old great granddaughter of Frank & Mary Buchert, grandniece of Curt & Patty Bales) continues to recover from a bone marrow transplant. She is doing remarkably well and has been released from the hospital and is now staying at the Ronald McDonald House. She continues treatment three times a week.
