I Need You - Week 1

Legacy Church is real people meeting real needs with the reality of Christ. We weren’t created to go through life alone. That’s why we’re building a community of authentic believers who can grow through life together.

I have often taught on community and unity. I try to come at the messages from different ways to help us see the importance of it. In this series I want to focus on just how much we need each other in the body of Christ in order to establish the Kingdom of God on earth. We are not called to be an island or to try to do the work of the Kingdom alone. We are called to walk, work, worship and extend God’s love together!

Acts 2:42-47

The believers here devoted themselves to several things. No one told them to, but rather it was an outward natural response the inward work of Holy Spirit in their lives. It was the teaching they were hearing – New Covenant theology, fellowship, breaking of bread and the prayers.

I think that the church has somewhat been given to the Word, at least understanding that the Word was important to study and to learn from. We do a little less well at understanding the need to be devoted to prayer. We do pretty good at breaking bread together. In fact that might be the one we are best at. But I don’t think we quite get the devotion to fellowship with one another. Not in the biblical sense of it.

Again, no one told them to do this but rather it was a natural outcome of what was happening inside of them. A dependence on each other to grow up together in the new revelation of Christ and the birth of the church was just an overflowing work of Holy Spirit in their lives.

We need each other to grow up into Christ.

I hear people say that they can be the church all by themselves and don’t need anyone. Or that they don’t need to go to church. While I support that we are the church and the building is not and that we don’t have to go to church to be the church, I cannot support the notion that you can do this alone. God simply didn’t design it that way. He has made it so that a body needs its parts. We need each other!

Ephesians 4:15-16

God simply didn’t design it that way. He has made it so that a body needs its parts. We need each other!

We need each other to grow up into Christ. This happens as each joint supplies it’s part and does what it has been purposed and equipped to do. The body grows and builds itself up in love. Much as in a body, the health of the body depends on the health of each member. We are ONE in Christ.

Ephesians 4:1-3

This speaks clearly to how we should live as the Body of Christ. We should live with humility and gentleness towards one another. We should be quick to forgive. We should work to maintain the unity of the Spirit and be bound together by the peace of God. This means having the hard conversations and not just walking away. This means doing the hard work to walk together.

What we have been called to walk in is UNITY!

This is more about our call together, as the body of Christ, than it is about our individual calls. We have been called to unity, to oneness, as we are one body in Christ. We need each other.

Is it hard for you to admit you need others or can you see your need for others? What do you feel Holy Spirit calling you to do about it?
