Have you ever found yourself making comparisons?

· Where do comparisons come from?
o FOMO from the Beginning - Eve
§ Genesis 3:1-6 NLT – The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’ “You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.” The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.

· What happens when we live in the trap of comparison?
o We never feel like we have enough. We are always striving to have more. We can find ourselves never at rest.
§ Tendency to have negative and anxious thoughts
§ Anxiety and depression
§ Overspending

· The Right Way – Choose to be Content!
o Content – a perfect condition of life – satisfied – nothing is needed
o Choose to focus on your Provider and rest in His provision
§ Philippians 4:19 HCSB – And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

· What are steps that lead to contentment? How do we stop comparing our lives with others?
o Rest in the truth that in Christ, you have all you need
§ Philippians 4:12-13 NLT – I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
§ Galatians 2:20a NLT – 20 My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.

o Wake up to the truth that more stuff doesn’t lead to happiness
§ 1 Timothy 6:6-8 NLT – Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.

o Practice Gratitude
§ 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NLT – Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
Getting practical – How can I avoid comparisons that lead to debt?
· Don’t get caught up in the highlight reel of others!
· Consider taking a break from social media.
· Write down 15 things that you are grateful for.

Are you choosing to live content?
· Philippians 4:13 NLT – For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
