How do we explain the differences between 1 and 2 Peter?

1) They're written 3-5 years apart.

2) Those were intense years. In some ways, 2 Peter is his last will and testament.

3. The differences in language can be explained.

He levels the playing field.

Christianity is the only world view where the greatest among people starts at the bottom and stays at the bottom. Multiple times in proverbs we see the phrase, “humility comes before honor.”

He indicates the source for grace and peace.

And Peter says that the answer for accessing what we need for life and godliness lies in the knowledge of Him who called us.

We tend to rely on personal experience or the experiences of others.

God knows things about your situation that you do not know, or will not know until the fog of war passes.

When you are not receiving the legitimate promises of God, it is because His immediate intentions for you are greater or deeper.

You don’t want to add wealth, you want to multiply it. You don’t want peace just for a little longer or grace for just a little more, you want to multiply it.

Peter explains how to multiply it. “May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.”
