What is the Cross and Resurrection all about?
Jesus is the Reconciler
The purpose of Jesus’ death is the reconciliation of everything and everyone
We were made in God’s image and in relationship with Him
He has made peace through his blood shed on the cross
vv. 21-22, you were alienated and evil, now you holy and faultless
How does this work?

Jesus is Just
He demonstrates God’s righteousness on the cross
In Jesus, God is punishing sin. 2 Cor 5, He became sin
Why is this necessary? The Father just has to punish someone?
1) Jesus is God so the Father doesn’t punish someone else
The Trinity takes and delivers the punishment
God takes the punishment on Himself
2) It is not cranky, selfish punishment
God demonstrates righteousness by dealing with sin
Good judges punish wrong doing.
They don’t tell let guilty go free and tell victims to “not worry about it”
We think of Jesus taking our sin and telling people, “You’re guilty.”
Jesus is also receiving the victims’ vengeance.
He is receiving the pain of the wrong done to you
The cross says that sin against you is not ok
God deals with sin, Jesus goes to the cross, because He is Love

Jesus is the Justifier
Back to the wrong done by you. It hurts others as well as God
Jesus also declares us righteous because of the cross
He doesn’t just forgive, he cleanses by taking the blame
He adopts us as children
We must accept Jesus’ work and invitation by faith.
“Faith is fundamentally humble, for it acknowledges our inability to save ourselves.” -Thomas Schreiner
Acknowledge your sin and acknowledge your inability to earn salvation
Ask for forgiveness and trust Him to adopt
The resurrection proves it’s all true
He is Lord of all, even death
He is Just – no sin to hold Him in the grave
He is Justifier – those who are His will rise also
