CONVERSATION STARTERS
Conversation Starters help us dig deeper, connecting Sunday’s sermons with our Monday lives. These prompts have been designed to help Community Groups grow in their relationship with God, with one another, and with their neighbors. Please know that these questions are meant to be a resource to you. You do not have to follow them verbatim or get through them all. We trust you to know your group and to ask the questions based on your group needs.

1. What stood out to you from the sermon?

2. Paul is providing leadership to this church in Philippi - how does he lead his church well in this passage? Are there ways Paul relates to his ‘team’ that you can display more in your work and home life?

3. Read Philippians 1:9-10. In what way does he hope for growth in the church, and why do you think it’s so important?

4. As you look over this passage, does the tone fit what you would expect from an author who is writing from prison? When you feel you are in an emotional ‘prison’, how easy is it for joy and love to abound in your life? What helps it to break through?

PRAYER PROMPT
Spend time on gratitude as a way to choose joy. Recognize God’s provision and all you have to be thankful for over the last year.

Prayer Requests

As a staff it is a privilege to pray for our congregation. Social distance does not change that! If you are in need of prayer click the link to fill out an online prayer request.

Title: Joy Is Here
Scripture: Philippians 1:1-11
Speaker: Taylor Fair, TaylorF@ChristCommunityKC.org
>> Joy is so characteristic of Paul's vision of the Christian life that one can say that a joyless Christian makes no more sense than a waterless ocean.
>> Joy is relational to the core
"The relationship between Paul and the Philippians can be described as a genuine partnership based on mutual admiration and genuine love. But that is not saying quite enough. These folks are more than friends—they are family and they are acting like it toward each other." - Ben Witherington
>> A caring family that is glad to be with us
>> Joy is when someone is glad to be with me...when someone’s face lights up to see me.
"The source of Paul’s joy is that the resurrection and enthronement of Jesus...has created a new world...a new world has been launched, even in the midst of the present old, corrupt, and decaying world. Those who follow Jesus...are already part of it." - N.T. Wright
>> A committed God who won’t give up on us
