Perks of the Resurrection
1 Peter 1:3-5
Pastor Jerry Koller

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, (1 Peter 1:3)
and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you, (1 Peter 1:4)
who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. (1 Peter 1:5)
To bless or to praise God means to proclaim His merit or His worth.
“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” (Rev. 5:12)
Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” (Rev. 5:13)
And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” (Rev. 7:10)
All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, (Rev. 7:11)
saying: “Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!” (Rev. 7:12)
There is nothing that we know of that rightfully deserves our praise other than God. There is no one who rightfully deserves our praise other than God.

He is to be praised because of His great mercy.

Mercy:
Love seems to be at the core of mercy.
Mercy has an object. It seems to be something that responds to a human need.
It often comes in an unexpected or unmerited way.
At its core, mercy is often expressed in forgiveness.

It is an attribute of God.
Scripture shows us how God has given us His great mercy, and this great mercy has its greatest expression in the giving of a new birth.
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. (Eph. 2:4-5)
This new birth, given through God’s great mercy to us, is a living hope.

Biblical hope is something that will come true because it is a strong and confident expectation.
This living hope has been secured through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
This new birthis our inheritance.

It is an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.

This inheritance, received through faith, is shielded by God’s power.

It is divinely insured, kept in heaven for you.

It is divinely kept until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. (Eph. 2:4-5)
And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. (Eph. 2:6-7)
APPLICATION

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Praise Him because He is worthy to be praised.

Praise Him because of the great mercies He has bestowed upon us.

Praise Him because He has given us His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, who suffered, died, and rose again.

Praise Him because by grace, through faith, we have received the new birth. We have received new life.

Praise Him because through the resurrection of our Savior, we have received a living hope, a strong and confident expectation—our salvation—that will be fully revealed and experienced when Jesus returns.

Praise Him because this inheritance can never spoil, perish, or fade because it is divinely insured—kept in heaven for us—safe and secure by God’s power.

Couples Retreat: 4/8-4/10 or 4/16-4/18

You may have heard the phrase – “Come apart before you come apart.” Jesus said something similar to his disciples when he gave this invitation: “Come away by yourselves to a remote place and rest for a while.” (Mark 6:31). Life is demanding and complicated. Without intentional practices of rest and renewal none of us are able to keep perspective. This is especially true of marriage relationships. Without tending, the spark that brought a couple together can begin to fade. Lake Ann Camp’s Couples Retreat is perfectly designed to stir the embers and reignite the flame.  Whether you are just beginning the marriage journey, or have been married for decades, you can expect to be encouraged and filled with hope for the days ahead. Practical messages, engaging activities, and quiet moments provide rest and renewal. Join us at beautiful Lake Ann Camp and discover life at its best." Cost is $185-325 per couple, depending on your housing choice. Doug & Julie Zantello are going 4/8-4/10 and Rob & Brandy Zantello are going 4/16-4/18.  If you’re interested in carpooling or have ?’s, feel free to contact any of them. For more information or to register online, go to:

Pictures Needed

As Rocky Starland continues to put history videos together, he is seeking church related pictures from 1970-present. If you have any available (church plays, Pumpkinfest, potlucks, etc.), please either drop them off in envelopes and put them in his church mailbox. Please include information about each picture: people's names, what the event is, and any other helpful details. Also be sure to put your name on the envelope so we can return the pictures when we are done. If you’d like to bring digital copies, please make arrangements with Kim.
