The trial of Jesus moves now from the Jewish Sanhedrin to the Palace of the Roman Governor. This is no accident of history but is rather a theological necessity. God wants us to see that no single person or group or ethnicity is responsible for the death of Jesus. Instead the whole human race is guilty of Christ’s death – and therefore the whole human race desperately needs His salvation.
