Birds and Lilies
Matthew 6:25-34
Pastor Jerry Koller
“Therefore” is an important word because it draws us back to something previously emphasized.
· Jesus uses this word three times in our text: in verses 25, 31, and 34.
The theme of this passage focuses on worry. It is mentioned 5 times (25, 27, 28, 31, 34)
The Greek word for worry is derived from a word that means to separate into parts or to split into factions.
· to divide the mind into sections and compartments
Jesus said, “I tell you.” Here we see Jesus speaking with authority.
· Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.
· Life is a reference to our existence.
· It included all of our being—mind, body, and soul.
“Isn’t food and drink essential to life itself?”
· Worrying about them will not prolong our lives.
God is the author of man’s splendor for we are God’s ultimate creation.
· We created in His image
· We are the only part of creation that is designed to live in relationship to Him.
Life is more important than food.
· The body is more important than clothing.
· The material or earthly things are not the most important things as far as life and body is concerned.
What is most important to us?
· What are we seeking?
· What are we pursuing?
· Our primary concerns must be on living according to kingdom principles with an eternal view.
· There is a life to come.
· Eternal life only comes through Jesus.
· Those outside the kingdom of God are not concerned about spiritual things or about kingdom living.
· Stop living like those who do not have faith in God.
How do we keep worry under control?
Anxiety is often driven by a feeling that we are not in control.
There are some “firsts” that we must be aware of as we live our lives.
· The word “first” reflects sequence.
· The word “first” also reflects priority.
· The word “first” also reflects time: immediately!
Together let us continue to live out our faith together—as kingdom citizens—for the glory and honor of our King.

Live Worship Is Resuming!

Join us in the sanctuary on Sunday, February 7, at 10:30 AM. We will celebrate communion. As we did in the past, we are requiring those who wish to attend to wear a mask (or bandana) that covers both their nose and mouth. Face shields are acceptable. We will practice social distancing and have arranged our sanctuary seating to accommodate this exercise. If you are unable to join us in person, we will have a livestream available on Facebook beginning at 10:30 AM as well. For questions or more info, contact the church office.

Church Office Re-Opening

While Kim will continue to work primarily from home, the church office will be open on Wednesdays from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM, starting 2/3, if you need to stop in for any reason.

Blood Drive: 2/4

We are hosting a blood drive on Thursday, 2/4, from 1:00-6:00pm in the gym at FBC. Masks are required, social distancing is expected and all precautions will be taken to make this a safe event. The need for blood is great. If you're able to donate, we encourage you to do so. Sign up to donate at:

Craft Group Resumes

Our craft group will resume meeting in the library on Thursday evenings. If you are interested in joining, please contact Tracy Marshall.

Annual Meeting Update

The mailed in ballots were reviewed and tabulated by the Elder Ministry Team at their January 18 meeting. All items were approved (by-law amendment, 2021 budget, new Elder Brian Bocock, and the EMT for this year). Those who will serve on the EMT in 2021 are: Jason Avery, Brian Bocock, Steve Follman, Janette Hendrix, and Rob Zantello. Please keep them in prayer throughout the year as they serve in this leadership capacity.

2021 Giving Statements

Statements were emailed on 1/18/2021. If you did not receive yours or would like a copy sent via snail mail, please contact the church office.

FBC Church App Coming Soon

We are working out the tweaks, but we will soon have our own church app available. This will give you an easy place to check directory info for other church family members (address, phone number, email addresses, etc.), make prayer requests, check your giving information, give online, and so much more! We are excited to share more info with you in the next few weeks.

Check Out Our Web Page

We are keeping our web page (southhavenfbc.com) updated regularly.  Please use it as a tool.  Under "Resources" we have a page for FBC Members only which has our latest emails and letters from Pastor Jerry.  If you try to access this page, you will need the password "Know Him" to see the content.
