God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth [January 31, 2021] Greg Burlile
1: God Reveals Himself to Us as Our Heavenly Father
Romans 8:14-17 ESV
14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
How does a person get adopted into God’s family???
John 1:12 ESV
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,
With God as Our Heavenly Father…
We are secure in His love
Romans 8:15…For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear..
Romans 8:16 … The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God
Romans 8
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,
39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 John 3:1a ESV
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.
1 John 3:1a JB Phillips translation
Consider the incredible love that the Father has shown us in allowing us to be called “children of God”—and that is not just what we are called, but what we are.
We have a close, intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father
Romans 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
We Have an Inheritance
Romans 8:17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
1 Peter 1 ESV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,
5 who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
We Bear the Family Likeness
Romans 8:17 says we “share in Christ sufferings…” but also later in Romans 8 in verse 29
8:29 ESV
For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
2: God Reveals Himself to Us as Our Almighty Father
Matthew 19:26 ESV
26 But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Isaiah 43 NASB
18 “Do not call to mind the former things,
Or consider things of the past.
19 Behold, I am going to do something new,
Now it will spring up;
Will you not be aware of it?
I will even make a roadway in the wilderness,
Rivers in the desert.
Ephesians 3:20 NASB
20 Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,
3: God Created the Heavens and the Earth
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen. 1:1)
Romans 8:14-17 ESV
