Welcome to FM First Baptist
How to Fast Well
In our Christian life, routines are great, but we want to teach believers practices and encourage habits to affect other areas of their lives. What are the best practices of maturing followers of Christ? Each practice is a tool we use to live out and pass on our identity

About FM First Baptist
Expand
Flower Mound First Baptist has been making much of Jesus in the Timber Creek area for over 30 years. Every week we gather to magnify Christ in word & deed, mature as Christ-followers, and multiply and make disciples for Christ. Our garden is a living parable of the Good Gardener's work in and through us.

SONG LYRIC - Come Thou Fount (Above All Else)
Expand
Come Thou fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount I'm fixed upon it
Mount of Thy redeeming love

Here I raise my Ebenezer
Hither by Thy help I'm come
And I hope by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wand'ring from the fold of God
He to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood

Oh to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be
Let Thy goodness like a fetter
Bind my wand'ring heart to Thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart Lord take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

(Above) All else I adore Your name
Above all else tune my heart to sing Your praise
Above all else I adore Your name
Above all else tune my heart to sing Your praise

SONG LYRIC - Graves into Gardens
Expand
I searched the world but it couldn't fill me
Man's empty praise and treasures that fade
Are never enough
Then You came along and put me back together
And every desire is now satisfied here in Your love

Oh there's nothing better than You
There's nothing better than You
Lord there's nothing
Nothing is better than You

I'm not afraid to show You my weakness
My failures and flaws
Lord You've seen them all
And You still call me friend
'Cause the God of the mountain
Is the God of the valley
And there's not a place
Your mercy and grace won't find me again

You turn mourning to dancing
You give beauty for ashes
You turn shame into glory
You're the only one who can

You turn graves into gardens
You turn bones into armies
You turn seas into highways
You're the only one who can

Three Questions about Fasting
- Why not?
- Why now?
- How then?
Jesus gives us three metaphors -- a wedding, wardrobe, and wine.
How many in the church are like John's disciples? We can get so busy in doing things for Christ that we miss being with Christ.
Why are your disciples different than us? What do they know that we're obviously missing?
Jesus brings supernatural delight. He is our joy.
Isn’t it sad that most believers do not compare their relationship to Christ to something as joyous as a wedding? What’s wrong with us?
Absence of fasting in them was a sign/witness of God’s presence among them
Fasting in the OT was not wrong or outdated. When Jesus came, it became inadequate.
Why could Christ be calling us to fast in 2021?
1. Receive Jesus anew as Messiah.
2. Draw near to him once again.
3. Reject what the world offers.
4. Feast on what Christ gives.
5. Look forward to his return.
How to start? (David Mathis)
1.Start small.
2.Plan what you’ll do instead of eating.
3.Consider how it’ll affect others.
4.Try different kinds. (Personal & public)
5.Fast from something other than food.
6.Focus on the soul not the stomach.
Could the Lord be waiting & watching for the church once again to pray & fast?
SONG LYRIC - O Come to the Altar
Expand
Are you hurting and broken within
Overwhelmed by the weight of your sin
Jesus is calling
Have you come to the end of yourself
Do you thirst for a drink from the well
Jesus is calling

O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ

Leave behind your regrets and mistakes
Come today there's no reason to wait
Jesus is calling
Bring your sorrows and trade them for joy
From the ashes a new life is born
Jesus is calling

Oh what a Savior
Isn't he wonderful
Sing alleluia Christ is risen
Bow down before him
For he is Lord of all
Sing alleluia Christ is risen

Bear your cross as you wait for the crown
Tell the world of the treasure you've found

Give Here

Giving is an act of worship. We acknowledge God as the supreme treasure of our hearts & homes. We give to him as a way of praising and thanking him for his abundant grace toward us. We trust the Father will care for us as he does the rest of creation. It also frees us to live simple lives unhindered from what moth and rust can destroy.
