What would you most dislike about being in prison?
Begin your study with prayer
Pause for a few minutes to quiet your heart and mind. Ask God to help you experience His love and hear His voice as you reflect on this week’s lesson.

Acts of the Apostles 12:1-19 NLT

1. Which verse in this passage is most significant to you? Why?
2. Why would it please the Jews for James to be put to death?
3. What are your thoughts about Peter being rescued from physical death when James (the Apostle, brother of John) was not?
4. What motivated the church to pray earnestly for Peter?
5. If you were Peter, what would you have done when the angel appeared and told you to get up?
6. How would you react if you were part of the prayer group when someone said, Peter is standing at the door?
7. Why would Peter want James (half-brother of Jesus and leader in the Jerusalem church) to know about his rescue?
8. What effect did Peter’s escape have on the prayer group? The soldiers? Herod?
9. If you experienced answered prayer, what effect would, or did, it have on you?
10. What would you like the church to be praying for you?
Spiritual Practice
Spiritual Practices help us experience the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives. They’re meant to be more than one-time actions, becoming a natural part of our lives.

Practice these three T’s based on Philippians 4:6:

1. Tell God what you need.
2. Thank God for what He’s done.
3. Trust God for what He’ll do.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Philippians 4:6 (NLT)
Memory Verse
Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.” Matthew 19:26 (NLT)
Prepare for Next Sunday
Sunday, December 6, we’ll begin a series titled Experiencing Christmas. To prepare, read Galatians 5:22; John 3:16; 1 John 4:9-10.
