Rest in God’s call even when your path is unclear – 2 Kings 18-19

2 Kings 18:1-7

I. You can’t rest in God until you know Him - (v. 1–8)
a. Despite his upbringing, Hezekiah lived a God-honoring life(v.3, 5-7)

Here’s how:
Hezekiah cleansed the Temple!
DO THIS: If we want to lead a God-honoring life, I must begin with cleansing myself! It begins within! Romans 12:1-2 calls for us to look within and be transformed!

Hezekiah re-consecrated the Temple!
DO THIS: Beginning a new path means leaving the old one.

Hezekiah removed a broken path – (v. 4)

II. You can’t tell God’s story if you’re focused on only telling your own – 18:9-16

2 Kings 18:9-16

The REAL reason Israel fell wasn’t the invaders
DO THIS: I’ll check my choices.

Look past the “now” to the result of your choices
CONSIDER THIS: Did God abandon me, or did I abandon Him? When I’m left feeling alone, I have to examine how I got here.
III. A familiar choice: Trust God or something else? - v. 13-37; 19:1-34

2 Kings 18:13-37

2 Kings 19:1-34

Hezekiah put his trust in the wrong place – vv. 14-16
CONSIDER THIS: Isn’t this the same question we’re asked? What are you leaning on? What is the foundation you’ve built upon? Who are you trusting in?

Hearing the report, Hezekiah did what he should’ve done in the first place.
1. He sought the Lord first.
2. He repented.
3. He sought the wisdom of Godly men – Isaiah was called and brought a word from the Lord. The word Isaiah brought did not disappoint. God will deliver you in spite of the odds and Sennacherib will die in his own land by his own sword. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. (Isaiah 26:4)
4. He ignored the fearful threats of the Assyrians.
5. He prayed.
IV. The Lord’s Answer – 19:35-37
CONSIDER THIS:
When God moves, there’s no question who did it.
When God is trusted, it’s His fight, not mine.
When God brings victory, make sure you know where the credit is due.
