True Riches—Part 2

True Riches—Part 2

In the book of Matthew. Jesus said “Store up treasures in heaven.” After these intriguing words, He suggests that heavenly investments are better than earthly ones. In heaven, thieves can’t break in and steal our wealth, and moths can’t destroy what we have. This statement peaks our interest, but what does it truly mean? How do we store up treasures in heaven? What are our treasures? How can we use what we have to get the greatest return on investment? Join us for the series, True Riches, as we explore how we can follow Jesus’ command.

[Josh Rhodes]
Problem | When we love money more than God, we tend to invest too much of our resources into things of this world that won’t last.
Solution | We give to impact eternity, and trust God to provide for us today.

Matthew 11:28

2 Corinthians 9:6-15

We should live to give...
• It pays to give.
• It pleases God when we give.
• It provides an opportunity to grow in faith.
• It glorifies God.
• It helps bind us together.
Today's Takeaway | We give to impact eternity, and trust God to provide for us today.

Matthew 6:19-24

You can either love money, or you can love God.
Love Money
collect treasures on earth
Love Money
• collect treasures on earth
will not last

Matthew 22:37-40

Love God
collect treasures in heaven
"Spiritual treasure should be defined as broadly as possible—as everything that believers can take with them beyond the grave—e.g., holiness of character, obedience to God’s commandments, souls won for Christ, and disciples nurtured in the faith. In this context, however, storing up treasures focuses particularly on the compassionate use of material resources to meet others’ physical and spiritual needs, in keeping with the priorities of God’s kingdom."

–Blomberg, C. (1992).Matthew (Vol. 22, p. 123). Nashville: Broadman & Holman Publishers
"What does it mean to lay up treasures in heaven? It means to use all that we have for the glory of God."

–Wiersbe, W. W. (1996).The Bible exposition commentary (Vol. 1, p. 28). Wheaton, IL: Victor Books
Love God
• collect treasures in heaven
• will last forever

Matthew 6:25-34

• Take an inventory of your money and possessions.
• Grow in the area of Biblical stewardship.
• Be a part of our Kindness Campaign.
We give to impact eternity, and trust God to provide for us today.
