CONVERSATION STARTERS
Conversation Starters help us dig deeper, connecting Sunday’s sermons with our Monday lives. These prompts have been designed to help Community Groups grow in their relationship with God, with one another, and with their neighbors. Please know that these questions are meant to be a resource to you. You do not have to follow them verbatim or get through them all. We trust you to know your group and to ask the questions based on your group needs.

1) Optional parallel reading for group discussion: Hebrews 12:1-7

2) How would you summarize the sermon in 60 seconds or less? What stood out to you?

3) Read Revelation 14:6. What’s significant about the gospel being described as ‘eternal’ and who the angel has chosen to proclaim to?

4) Are you more likely to fall into the sin of political idolatry or political passivity ie. that Election Day is everything or that Election Day is nothing? How do we guard against these opposite errors?

5) How should our faith inform our reaction to the election results? How can we as Christians respond with faith whether our candidate wins or loses?

PRAYER
Pray for our nation and our city as Election Day arrives, the weather turns, and sickness increases. Ask for the Lord’s guidance to be a light in our world this winter.

Prayer Requests

As a staff it is a privilege to pray for our congregation. Social distance does not change that! If you are in need of prayer click the link to fill out an online prayer request.

Title: Follow the Lamb
Scripture: Revelation 14
Speaker: Gabe Coyle, GabeC@ChristCommunityKC.org
>> Whose politics will we be marked by?
"The gospel of Jesus Christ is more political than anyone imagines, but in a way no one guesses." - Eugene Peterson, Reversed Thunder
"There is no avoiding politics. The moment one life impinges upon another politics begins. And our lives do impinge on others whether we will it or not…. No action or belief is private." - Andrew Peterson, Reversed Thunder
“Thus what the dragon calls up from the sea represents the evil systems of the world in all their forms: political, military, social, economic and religious. John’s readers would have recognized the beast summoned from the depths of the abyss as the superpower of their own day: Rome, with her world-conquering armies and blasphemous claims of divinity." - Paul Spilsbury, The Throne, The Lamb, and the Dragon
“The imperial age is the long-awaited golden age, indeed the eschatological age, in which humanity’s hopes have been fulfilled and will continue forever.” - Michael Gorman
“Thus Revelation is also a critique of all idolatries and injustices similar to those of Rome, throughout history and into the present.” - Michael Gorman
>> We CAN be marked by the politics of the beast today
>> We are marked by the politics of the beast when:
#1 We make Tuesday everything.
#2 We make Tuesday nothing.
>> Faithful presence is the mark of the Lamb
