Greenville Oaks Church of Christ
What is Discipleship?
We often talk about Jesus giving the great commission or emphasizing the great commandment, but he began his ministry with what we might call the great invitation: "Follow me." And those who followed him became his disciples.

Leadership Selection Process

Every three years, Greenville Oaks goes through a Leadership Selection Process to select Elders. This process began on Sunday, July 22, and will complete in October. The the Nomination Phase of the Leadership Selection Process is currently open. Members can now nominate men to serve using the online Nomination Form. In considering men for a nomination, it is vitally important to speak with them in person, pray for them by name, and ask God to once again provide us with men who will serve Greenville Oaks in this leadership role.

The real question is NOT:
"Am I perfect?"
"Am I doing just a little bit better than the person next to me?"
“Do I have all the right answers about religious things?”
The real question IS:
"Am I following Jesus?"
"Am I living by what he says?"
"Oh, you of little faith!”
“What were you arguing about?”
“Get behind me, Satan.”
“How long must I put up with you?”
“Have I been with you so long and you do not know who I am?”
“You will deny me three times.”
“Could you not stay awake and pray with me for one hour?"
"Dear Applicant: A study of the application forms reveals that this year our college will have 1,452 new leaders. We are accepting you because we feel it is imperative that they have at least one follower."
“Many Christians are only "Christaholics" and not disciples at all. Disciples are cross-bearers; they seek Christ. Christaholics seek happiness. Disciples dare to discipline themselves, and the demands they place on themselves leave them enjoying the happiness of their growth. Christaholics are escapists looking for a shortcut to nirvana. Like drug addicts, they are trying to "bomb out" of their depressing world. There is no automatic joy. Christ is not a happiness capsule; he is the way to the Father. But the way to the Father is not a carnival ride in which we sit and do nothing while we are whisked through various spiritual sensations.”
- Eugene Peterson
“Half measures availed us nothing. We stood at the turning point. We asked his protection and care with complete abandon."
- The Big Book of A.A.
