Imitators
Ephesians 5:1-2
Pastor Jerry Koller
Imitation is not only an ideal, it is a command to follow.
· The phrase “Be imitators of God” is an imperative phrase.
· The imperative mood is a verb that gives a command.
· The command is to be imitators of God.
· Commands or imperatives in the New Testament are always based on God, His ways, His plans, His nature, and so on.
To imitate means to reproduce or copy as in appearance or behavior.
Notice the two characteristics that are mentioned in verse two: Love and Sacrifice.
Christ loved us. Christ gave Himself up for us. As far as imitating is concerned, love and sacrifice are the gold standards. And sacrifice is made possible because of love.
How good are you at imitating Christ’s love and sacrifice?
How are we to do this? Is such a thing possible?
· We may need to let it shine a bit differently in our postmodern age.
· Instead of beginning with words, we may need to begin with actions.
Being different—letting your light shine—living out your faith—takes courage.
The words “realized” is not to be understood as an instantaneous occurrence. It was more of a gradual recognition.
· Another translation is clearer: “they began to recognize.”
Unschooled
Ordinary
They took note that these men had been with Jesus.
What would you give to spend three years with Jesus like the Apostles did?
How much would you pay?
What would you give up or sacrifice?
APPLICATION
In order to be a good imitator, you have to purposely spend time with Jesus.
To imitate means to reproduce or copy as in appearance or behavior.
You cannot reproduce or copy what you do not know very well.
When people look at your life in this postmodern age, would they be able to observe that you have been with Jesus?

Oktoberfest Offering: 11/1

Join us Sunday, November 1, for a Special Worship Service!

During our morning worship service, we will have an opportunity to present a monetary gift to God in thanksgiving for His abundant blessings and in joyful celebration of being a church who is committed to being what God wants us to be. We will receive an extremely important Oktoberfest Offering which will be used solely for payment of our building mortgage (annually about $36,000.00). Besides celebrating God’s goodness, our Oktoberfest Celebration will also be a time when we can recommit ourselves to fulfilling God’s calling “To Know Him and Make Him Known” and to the goal of living out our faith together.

While this year has been off-kilter in so many ways, we are looking forward to what 2021 will bring as well as how God will use our building to impact the lives of others in our community. If you are unable to join us for the service, we hope you’ll consider either mailing or making an online contribution ahead of time. While the year 2020 seems to have been a standstill in many aspects, our church bills have continued to need to be paid and this offering is vital to our ability to pay the mortgage. We thank you for prayerfully considering how you can contribute.

[Due to the pandemic, we will forego our potluck this year, but hopefully will be able to hold one following our annual meeting in January.]

Happy Birthday!

· Tom Craig (10/20)
· Rocky Starland (10/21)
· Sheli Sobralski (10/22)
· Pat Fitton (10/23)

Happy Anniversary!

· Curt & Patty Bales (10/20, 19 years)
· Jim & Marialice Quinn (10/23, 49 years)
· Rob & Brandy Zantello (10/25, 17 years)

Congratulations!

Paul and Pat Fitton are thrilled to announce the birth of their new granddaughter, Lila June Fitton. Lila was born on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 8:18pm to Kyle and Emily Fitton of Kentwood, Michigan. Emily, Lila and Kyle are doing well, and Lila, now two weeks old, was described today by her Mom as being “awake much more during the day. She loves to have her tummy time with Daddy and is quite the hungry hippo, weighing in at close to nine pounds now.” Lila is Paul and Pat’s first granddaughter and their third grandchild. Cousins Samuel and Christopher Wulpi of Pittsburgh want to know if Lila is ready to play cars yet.
