Week Three: The Heart of Sabbath
Over the past two weeks we've looked at why remembering the Sabbath can be such a struggle, and how to avoid unhealthy and legalistic perspectives as people who live under grace. This week we take a deeper look at the *heart* of Sabbath rest. The question moves from "Just who do we think we are" to "Just who do we think HE is?"

Rooted in the Beginning (1-5)
v. 1: Hearing God's word is not enough; it must be combined with faith!
Why practice Sabbath? To look more like Jesus! God rests because he chooses to rest. If you and I don't choose it, we simply won't rest.
A Reality for Us Now (6-11)
"Sabbath dissolves the artificial urgency of our days." ~ AJ Swoboda
Requires an Ongoing Response (12-13)
We can only embrace the grace and love of God in the light of the holiness and justice of God.
With the ease of life these days (even with COVID!) most of us are able to spend the majority of our days without the felt need for the ongoing grace of God, through Jesus, by the Spirit.
Remembering the Lord of the Sabbath and the source of our rest.
The mind that comes to rest is tended
In ways that it cannot intend:
Is borne, preserved, and comprehended
By what it cannot comprehend.
Your Sabbath, Lord, thus keeps us by
Your will, not ours. And it is fit
Our only choice should be to die
Into that rest, or out of it.
~ Wendell Berry
