David's Chapel MBC - Right Now Teaching (Wed Night Bible Study)
How to get what you really want? (Part 3 - Last Things First)
One of the most difficult questions that we constantly ask ourselves because its forever changing is "What Do I Really Want?" What if I told you the reason why it changes is because you never really answered the question. You responded to the question but did you answer it. This series is geared toward answering the question because when you answer the question rather then respond to it then you can better direct and move in the right direction.

What Do You Want - Last Things First

What do you really want is a tricky question.
We all have discovered that after we get what we say we wanted we realize that it is not what we really want. We can equate that to people as well.

The better question is not What do you want?, but What do I value, What is really important to me.
Key meditate: We will never get what we want until we discover what we really value.

When you look at this even more there is sometimes a conflict between what you want and what you value.
It seems like a simple fix, because I can differenate between a want and a value. I can jot that down for you now. But the truth lies between your lips and his.

What we naturally want is often in conflilct with what we ultimately value. Romans 7:15 is a scripture that talks about this pulley fight we have in trying to answer what do you I really want.

Steven Covey wrote a book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People has a great exercise to help us figure out what we truly value.
(Short Version)
Pretend you are attending your funeral and on the program there are only 4 speakers there that are going to speak about you.
1) Family 2)Friends 3)Profession 4)Church/ Community Org.
Now think deeply, write out the things you would want them to say about you from their perspective. What do you want them to remember about you. What effect do you want to have had on their lives.

Please take a look at these things and think about this. "If you carefully consider what you wanted to be said of you in the funeral experience, you will find your definition of success." Steven Covey

If we are conscience human beings we will discover that at the end we want to know how we treated people, what was my mark on life. Not the money in the bank of account, how big my house was, no its about the mark we left on this word.

Homework: Dive back into those 4 point of views and draw out 7 key things that you really deem success is all about and then find scriptures for each on of those things and write them down and inscribe those things into your heart.

Let's take this a step further: Christians ask a different question... What does God really want for us? or depending on your spirtual walk you might ask... What does God really want from us?

If God is our father, and he is the greatest father we know, than why would he ever want anything from us. It's never from its for us.

Galatians 5:22-26 - let us know that some of these things he wants for us. Do you think you can get things accomplished with these traits. When you really think about it these are these real things

What do you want? This is the question that if you really search for you will find that you and God are not at far apart in thought as you once believed.

WHAT DO YOU WANT?
When you discover what you really value, you will be less prone to settle for what you merely want.
When what is actually important becomes the most important, you are on your way to getting what you really want. But dont get surprised that on your way you dont come face to face with the will of your heavenly father
