First Baptist Church, South Haven
Worship Gathering: 9/27/2020
Thank you for joining us for worship this morning! We are so glad you’re here today. Whether you are joining us in-person, online, as a vacationer, or as someone who is looking for a church home, we hope that you enjoy our gathering time and sense God’s presence. To help prevent the spread of germs, if you need to go in the building, please wear a mask. While our place of worship fluctuates depending on the weather and Covid rules, we are grateful to know that the Body of Christ can worship anytime, anywhere. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to adapt to these challenging times. As a reminder If you have a need for assistance during this time (grocery delivery, meals, etc.), please do not hesitate to call/text Kim Collins on her cell phone. We have church members ready and willing to help.

Weekly Bulletin
When we were lost ones,
You were the Shepherd that carried us home.
When we were prodigals, You ran to meet us with open arms.
And we can’t hold back our praise.
When we were refugees, You were the One who took us in.
When we were enemies, You paid the price for all our sin.
And we can’t hold back our praise.
This is the sound of adoration.
Oh, how we love You. Jesus, we love You.
You are the joy of all creation.
Oh, how we love You. Jesus, we love You.
You are the Risen One. You conquered death and made a way.
You sang our freedom song. Now we are dancing on our chains.
And we can’t hold back our praise.
This is the sound of adoration.
Oh, how we love You. Jesus, we love You.
You are the joy of all creation.
Oh, how we love You. Jesus, we love You.
By the cross, I am free. Your grace changes ev‘rything.
I was blind, now I see. Your grace changes ev‘rything.
By the cross, I am free. Your grace changes ev‘rything.
I was blind, now I see. Your grace changes ev‘rything, ev‘rything.
This is the sound of adoration.
Oh, how we love You. Jesus, we love You.
You are the joy of all creation.
Oh, how we love You. Jesus, we love You.
This is the sound of adoration.
Oh, how we love You. Jesus, we love You.
You are the joy of all creation.
Oh, how we love You. Jesus, we love You.
5 Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him.
6 He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
7 My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge.
'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His word,
Just to rest upon His promise,
Just to know, "Thus saith the Lord.
O how sweet to trust in Jesus
Just to trust his cleansing blood,
Just in simple faith to plunge me
'Neath the healing, cleansing flood!
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I've proved Him o'er and o'er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Je sus!
O for grace to trust Him more!
Yes, 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease,
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I've proved Him o'er and o'er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Je sus!
O for grace to trust Him more!
I'm so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I've proved Him o'er and o'er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Je sus!
O for grace to trust Him more!
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I've proved Him o'er and o'er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Je sus!
O for grace to trust Him more!
There's a place where mercy reigns and never dies.
There's a place where streams of grace flow deep and wide.
Where all the love I've ever found comes like a flood,
comes flowing down.
At the cross, at the cross, I surrender my life.
I'm in awe of You, I'm in awe of You.
Where Your love ran red, and my sin washed white.
I owe all to You, I owe all to You, Jesus.
There's a place where sin and shame are powerless.
There my heart has peace with God and forgiveness.
There all the love I've ever found comes like a flood,
comes flowing down.
At the cross, at the cross, I surrender my life.
I'm in awe of You, I'm in awe of You.
Where Your love ran red, and my sin washed white.
I owe all to You, I owe all to You
Here my hope is found. Here on holy ground,
Here I bow down, Here I bow down.
Here, arms open wide, Here You saved my life.
Here I bow down, Here I bow.
At the cross, at the cross, I surrender my life.
I'm in awe of You, I'm in awe of You.
Where Your love ran red, and my sin washed white.
I owe all to You, I owe all to You
I owe all to You, I owe all to You, Jesus. Jesus.
John 4:1-30
Pastor Jerry Koller
· Jesus was in Jerusalem celebrating the Passover.
· He had an encounter with a man named Nicodemus.
· Jesus leaves Jerusalem for the land of Judea where He was baptized by His cousin, John the Baptist.
· Jesus left Judea and headed back to Galilee via Samaria.
· They were half-breeds: half Jew and half Gentile.
· Because of their intermarriage, they were hated by their fellow Jews.
· They chose to worship at Mt. Gerizim in Samaria instead of at Jerusalem.
· They were compromisers. They married outside their race.
· They did not follow worship protocol.
· On one occasion, the Samaritans defiled the Jerusalem temple.
· The woman He was talking with did not have a stellar background.
· The woman had been married five times.
· She was currently involved in a relationship with a man who was not her husband.
· Jewish custom would have frowned upon a man talking with a woman he did not know or just met.
· Such interaction could lead to temptation.
· No wonder why the disciples were surprised when they found Jesus talking with this strange woman.
· The woman had some kind of understanding about God.
· She knew this God was to be worshipped.
· She knew this God promised to send a Messiah to His people.
· Could what was once lost now be found?
· The ethical barrier deals with a set of rules that society establishes as to what is right and what is wrong.
· It is a set of rules that defines allowable actions or correct behavior.
· The moral barrier deal with an individual’s or a society’s view of what is right and what is wrong.
· Ethics is often the outward manifestation of moral standards.
· Gender barriers today are very different than in Jesus’ day.
· Our society equates gender with sexuality or sexual attraction rather than distinguishing organisms based on their reproductive roles.
· 2 vs. 58 varieties???
· This does not mean we surrender to society’s view of what is ethical, moral, or how it views gender.
· Would you cross barriers to share with thieves?
· Would you cross barriers to share with drunks?
· Would you cross barriers to share with tax collectors?
· Would you cross barriers to share with adulteresses and adulterers?
· Would you cross barriers to share with society’s outcasts?
Lord of all creation, of water, earth, and sky,
The heavens are Your tabernacle
Glory to the Lord on high!
God of wonders beyond our galaxy, You are holy, holy.
The universe declares Your majesty. You are holy, holy.
Lord of heaven and earth Lord of heaven and earth.
Early in the morning, I will celebrate the light.
And when I stumble in the darkness
I will call Your name by night
God of wonders beyond our galaxy, You are holy, holy.
The universe declares Your majesty. You are holy, holy.
Lord of heaven and earth Lord of heaven and earth.
Hallelujah, to the Lord of heaven and earth
Hallelujah, to the Lord of heaven and earth
Hallelujah, to the Lord of heaven and earth
Hallelujah, to the Lord of heaven and earth
God of wonders beyond our galaxy, You are holy, holy.
The universe declares Your majesty. You are holy, holy.
Precious Lord, reveal Your heart in me
Father hold me, hold me.
The universe declares Your majesty
You are holy, holy. You are holy, holy.
Hallelujah, to the Lord of heaven and earth
Hallelujah, to the Lord of heaven and earth
Hallelujah, to the Lord of heaven and earth
Hallelujah, to the Lord of heaven and earth
