Before We Lose Our Minds | The Art of Simplicity
In so many ways the world feels like it’s on fire. From politics to conspiracy theories, to debates about global warming to social unrest to fake news it seems like everywhere you look there is conflict or something new to be afraid of. What’s worse, it’s hard to even know what to believe anymore even when we earnestly go looking for answers. And to top it all off we have this global pandemic that has disrupted our everyday rhythms and left us with new uncertainties about what the future holds. All of this can leave you feeling like you’re slowly losing your mind. But you don’t have to feel like this. There can be peace amidst this chaos and starting September 20th I want to give you three ways to find that peace in a series I’m calling, “Before We Lose Our Minds”.

1) A move of God was beginning that included a king (Jesus), land (all of creation) and people (the church).
2) The redemptive reign of God. That God was going to begin to heal and restore in a fresh way.
3) That the presence, peace and power of God were going to be available in a new way.
The Kingdom of God is where we want to live and ground our lives. When we do this, we've placed our life within something that is unshakeable.
Here are some verses that tie in to today's message:
Mark 1:14-15
After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”
Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Matthew 6:9-10
“This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven....
Below is a story that illustrates Jesus saying no to a good thing in order to stick to his purpose. This little story can help us when we feel guilty for saying no to good things in order to focus on our purpose within the kingdom.
Mark 1:35-38
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!”
Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.”
Example: I am a beloved son/daughter of God and I live in his unshakeable kingdom. This fall I will focus on _________________ as a way of being faithful.
