If Only: Stay the Course When You Can’t See the End
Welcome to Grace Chapel! In a world scarred by rebellion against God, all people, including God’s beloved children are subject to suffering of all kinds. Often this includes waiting on God for some kind of deliverance from our pain. God is neither chained by time nor defeated by suffering. In the story of Lazarus’ death, we see the power of trusting God for the outcome.

- SEE Me in your suffering. (vv. 1-4)
TRUST Me in your waiting. (vv. 5-6)
ANTICIPATE Me in your circumstances. (vv. 7-10)
BELIEVE Me for the best outcome. (vv. 11-16)
“The far-sighted, perfect love that seeks the perfection of the object does not weakly shrink from present, transient suffering. Our Father’s love is too true to be weak.” —Streams in the Desert
“This is the discipline of darkness: Never doubt in the dark what God told you in the light.” — V. Raymond Edmond
The suffering of a believer in Christ is never wasted; God uses it to glorify Christ and draw a watching world to Himself.
My Next Step:
- Pray and thank God for the character He is developing in me as I go through my present trial.
- Read more about God’s sovereignty and remember that He is in control and can empower to face my circumstances.
- Memorize and practice Philippians 4:8, keeping my mind fixed on God.
- Use a Bible or Concordance to study a passage of Scripture that relates to my specific situation. Write down what God speaks to me about it.
