Merry & Bright - wk1 Grow in Wonder

We will celebrate the wonder of the season as we examine the truth that we can be astonished again by the hope that abounds in Christmas. Despite all the darkness, Jesus continually brings His LIGHT into our world to change things. His hope can grow our wonder, expand our compassion and engage our hearts to join His movement.

Christmas is a beautiful time of year and there’s nothing quite like the Christmas story. At the heart it’s a story that introduces something Merry and Bright into a dark setting. From the 1st note of the song the Angels sang announcing the birth of Christ – His light illuminated all of History from that point on. This story changed everything for everyone for all time
- whether they know it or not.
What's some Christmas family traditions that you have to help you engage in this season?
Childlike faith and wonder is something Jesus celebrated and honors.
The Bible calls us to see each day as a gift - rip into it, seize it as a wonderful adventure with your Creator. We're to live with wonder and joy.
see James 4:14
"How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone."
Truth: For us to grow in the WONDER of God, things don’t have to be completely wonderful. The single most astonishing story every told – still calls to us to experience WONDER…even if not everything is wonderful.
Why? Because the Christmas story doesn’t find it’s beginning in the backdrop of everything being wonderful.
King Herod was a paranoid controlling leader who oppressed the Jewish people under Roman rule, though he gave some good their way. Amongst his massive building projects, he was paranoid to lose his power and have his kingdom torn down.
When Jesus was born - all was not merry and bright. Christmas is a gift - not because it’s trouble free. But because it’s God introducing a new reality.
A new HOPE that breaks into the darkness around us. Christmas reminds us: Jesus came in the midst of a mess and he’s able to enter into the messes with you. It’s familiar territory for him.
Friends, may the WONDER of Christmas recapture your heart and soul again this year, no matter what darkness is surrounding you.
Takeaway:
Intentionally & creatively make the celebration of Christmas > the obligations of Christmas.
Let’s allow the Christmas story to grow our astonishment - not because everything is perfect, but because everyday is a gift from God. God’s WONDER can refresh us, even when things aren’t completely wonderful.
Need Prayer? ....we've got some of our prayer team and pastors available following service to pray with you. Or you can text the word "prayer" to our phone number: #520-300-9001 to submit your prayer request or submit one via our new app. We look forward to partnering with you in prayer.
