Joshua series - wk3

Joshua series - wk3

In this series, we are journeying through some of the stories of God in the Old Testament Book of Joshua. God’s call to his people back then to join him in movement toward the promised land has great principles and insights for our journey of following God today. We’re to be ‘strong and courageous’ as we follow him whole-heartedly into the adventures awaiting us.

Recap: From beginning to end – the book of Joshua identifies ‘Yahweh’s’ commitment to fulfill his promises to Israel as the driving force behind its narratives. The last couple weeks we've looked at:
-God called & commissions Joshua & he calls & commissions each of us.
-WE’RE TO FOLLOW FORWARD FAITHFULLY
- God’s always looking – always at work drawing people toward Himself
God does another incredible miracle and the people cross over the Jordan river (at flood stage) on dry ground. They're told to take 12 stones to set up as a memorial - to always remember what God has done for them for generations to come. A remembrance - so they won’t forget. Anyone struggle with forgetfulness?
The average human brain processes some 70,000 messages/thoughts a day. There's 100 billion neurons in the brain making connections/synapsis that make Scientist say, there is virtually no limit to the amount of information we can remember…YET, raise your hand if you struggle to remember?! We may even feel our minds are hopelessly cluttered.
Which can actually lead us to focusing on anything and everything but, the most important things.
The Scriptures call us over and over to 'REMEMBER' - to make remembering a practice and rhythm of our lives. Especially as it comes to remembering God's activity in our lives and his faithfulness. (I’m convinced that’s why the Scripture writers call us to worship and gather together as the church on a regular basis – too keep us focused on the important things and the ONE who matters most)
God was at work – and all were witnesses. Everyone was to REMEMBER.
It’s important to remember the most important things. The practice of Remembering matters. And in a chaotic culture like ours, overflowing with information and distraction, in the cluttered world in which we live - it’s important to refocus our minds – to engage in this practice of remembering.
The cluttered mind poses a unique danger to our lives. It can make us forget things which matter, the ONE who matters most and pursue things that matter least.
Biblically: We’re to have a RENEWED MIND (Romans 12:1) – and the practice of remembering as a rhythm of life. *Remembering God’s activity and interceding within our lives. Remembering builds our trust & relationship with GOD – the ONE who has helped us in the past and helps us now and will continue to help us securely into the future.
REMEMBERING MATTERS – because it refuels our soul, reinvigorates our minds, refreshes our hearts & reinforces our love for Jesus! As we grow our gratitude for All He has done & will yet do!
ACTIVITY:
TONIGHT, as we head outside for the after party, you'll find rocks outside and you're invited to write something on it as we create a small memorial. You’ll have the chance to record something on your rock. We’ve had the privilege to be here for the last 3 ½ yrs. Maybe you want to tell God what you’re thankful for in how He’s grown your faith, impacted your life here. Maybe you want to write a blessing, a verse, a prayer for CHS. Maybe you want to write a song that is meaningful to you. Maybe a simple phrase that captures what’s in your heart toward God – saying thank you for something he’s done recently over our time here.
Need Prayer? ....we've got some of our prayer team and pastors available following service to pray with you. Or you can text the word "prayer" to our phone number: #520-300-9001 to submit your prayer request or submit one via our new app. We look forward to partnering with you in prayer.
