RUTH - TRAGEDY IN A DISTANT COUNTRY
Introduction
As we approach a study of this short book of Ruth, we see that this book contains two types of stories—a story of tragedy and a story of rebirth.
1. SETTING—"In the days when the judges ruled..."
- Israel's Cycle of Obedience/Disobedience in Judges (Judges 2:1-14)
- The Moabites—from the land of Moab—were one of the nations that God used to bring judgment upon the people of Israel (Judges 3:12-30).
2. CHARACTERS—Elimelech's Family
- Elimelech and his wife, Naomi
- The Rest of the Family

Two Daughters-in-Law—Orpah and Ruth
