Use this guide by yourself or with friends to study the Bible and pursue a deeper relationship with God.
Conversation Starter
Describe a time you felt like giving up.
Begin your study with prayer
Pause for a few minutes to quiet your heart and mind. Ask God to help you experience His love and hear His voice as you reflect on this week’s lesson.
Personal Reflection/Group Discussion
Read Hebrews 11:20-22.
1. How are Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph related?
2. What did each of these men do to pass faith on to the next generation?
3. What are several reasons it’s important to pass faith on to future generations?
4. What challenges does the church face when it comes to helping future generations walk with God?
5. Joseph had a hard life. He was sold into slavery by his brothers, wrongly accused of having inappropriate relations with his boss’s wife, put in prison, and faced many difficult life decisions. How do you think Joseph became so confident in God’s promises (vs. 22)? To learn more about Joseph, read Genesis 37-50.
6. Do you have a faith story – either a moment or a season when your faith in Jesus became real? If not, what’s stopping you from trusting God with your life? If you are a follower of Christ, who has God put in your life that needs to hear about your faith?
7. If anyone came to mind in question 6, pray for God to work in their lives. Ask God to give you opportunities to tell them about your faith in Jesus.
8. Think of someone you know who lives with a deep, settled confidence in God’s promises. What steps could you take to follow their example?
9. Which of God’s promises are you holding onto these days?
10. What scares you about the future? What steps could you take to develop deeper trust in God about these things?
Soul Training
Spend time talking with God about your worries and fears. Ask Him to fill you with confidence in who He is and what He has promised. For some extra encouragement, write down several of God’s promises and meditate on them each day this week.
Memory Verse
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. Philippians 1:6 (NLT)
Prepare for Next Sunday
Sunday, August 9, we’ll continue the series Believing God, by taking a closer look at the life of Moses. To get ready for the message, read Exodus 3:1-15 and Hebrews 11:23-28.
