Habits - Silence and Solitude
"Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly." -Matthew 11:29-30 (MSG)- SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES can be described as those behaviors that augment our spiritual growth and enable us to grow to spiritual maturity. In our series, HABITS we will explore the Biblical teaching on several Christian disciplines while participating in a PRACTICAL expression of each one.

Title: Silence & Solitude
Title: Silence & Solitude
Spiritual disciplines can be described as those habits that augment our spiritual growth and enable us to grow to spiritual maturity.
The ultimate test of the value of the habit of silence and solitude is if they empower us to love God and others better.
When it comes to Solitude…
Solitude isn’t about inner emptiness; solitude is about inner fulfillment.
Solitude isn’t about inner emptiness; solitude is about inner fulfillment.
Solitude Involves:
-The practice of scheduling enough uninterrupted time in a distraction-free environment where I can better experience the presence of God.
-The practice of scheduling enough uninterrupted time in a distraction-free environment where I can better experience the presence of God.
Solitude Involves:
-Giving God time and space that is not in competition with social contact, noise or stimulation.

When it comes Silence….
Silence may involve the absence of speech; but it always involves the act of listening.
Silence may involve the absence of speech; but it always involves the act of listening.
Silence Involves:
-A motivated desire to be free from the addiction to noise so I can be totally present to the Lord; to open myself to God in the place beyond words.
-A motivated desire to be free from the addiction to noise so I can be totally present to the Lord; to open myself to God in the place beyond words.
Silence Involves:
-Developing fertile ground within my soul for intimacy with God.

The Example of Jesus:
What Does Silence and Solitude “Look Like”?
•Make the practice of silence and solitude a “planned time”.
•Keep a sense of spontaneity in the practice of silence and solitude.
•Maintain focus on God and intimacy with Him.
