Sermon Outline:
Title: Everyone Is Equal; No One Is More Equal!
Key Text: Galatians 3:26-29
This is the concept of equality pursued by the sinful human being! In theory, we know everyone is equal…, but still… we’d like to be more equal…
Galatians 3:26-28
26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Dwight Moody said: There are two ways of being united one is by being frozen together, and the other is by being melted together… We have different concepts in mind…
1. One in Christ -> Neither Jew, nor Greek!
Here we are in America of the 21 st century. Why would the 21st century different? Even these days, on the rim of the melting pot, with words or by waving a swastika flag…we are shouting at each that we are more equal…
2. One in Christ -> Neither slave, nor free…
The second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence signed on the 4th of July 1776 starts with these words: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal…”
Abraham Lincoln, in 1864 declared: If slavery is not wrong, then nothing is wrong! Arguing with an imaginary slave master: What kind of cognitive dissonance or spiritual schizophrenia could make you believe you can be a good Christian and a slave master at the same time?
3. Neither male, nor female!
The challenge is that there are still too many bible-knowing abusers, who will proof-text and read their ideas into the Bible to find an excuse for their abuse. Quite often those who cry out against slavery, don’t even speak up against the slavery of women… in their own homes.
When I look at Jesus Christ, the One that holds all Supremacy in His Church, I have no fear; I have a faith! That we all know: In Christ, everyone is equal; no one is more equal! And we will keep on faithfully, and proclaiming fearlessly this good news!
