Our sin can have far-reaching consequences that can have an impact beyond our lifetime.

Despite the negative circumstances we often find ourselves in, God remains in control.

We must consistently ask ourselves if we have acted in “good faith”.

The Israelites have demonstrated considerable disloyalty to God, but God remains faithful.

Abimelech ruthlessly commits genocide in an attempt to quell a rebellion.

Abimelech’s death is a disgraceful end to a violent and unstable ruler.

Abimelech failed Israel in three ways:
1. He failed to honor the Lord.
2. He failed to honor his family.
3. He failed to be the judge Israel needed and became their oppressor.

Takeaway: Our shortcomings become opportunities for God to demonstrate his unfailing love and loyalty towards us.
