Emotion Pictures - Fear wk4
Whether you're a person who wears your emotions on your sleeve or you're more stoic and hide them a bit, the truth is: everyone 'feels'. We want to look at what the Scriptures have to say about navigating our emotions in a healthy way. How do we deal with how we feel?

http://elem.cc/weeklyWe said this series is all about becoming emotionally healthy so we can keep growing spiritually following Jesus. We're using Psalm 139 as a reminder of God's incredible design of YOU. His attention and awareness of you.
Quote: (Peter Scazzero - book: Emotionally Healthy Spirituality)
"You can not grow to be spiritually mature, if you remain emotionally immature”…emotional maturity and spiritual maturity are not the same thing, but they are each others’ ceiling.

Tonight, we look into the emotion of fear. FEAR is an emotion that we all experience from time to time. There can be a healthy side to fear - warnings - but there is also a dark side to fear, a destructive side that hinders us from living the life God desires and calls us toward in Jesus. There's also the 'fear of the Lord' that the Scriptures speak so much of. What does that mean?
The 'fear of the Lord' is more of a I’m so in awe of who God is, what he can do – that I’m going to show my proper respect/honor → I’m not taking him lightly. It's not nec. being 'afraid of' God. Though it is remembering: He’s BIG and I’m little! - We know ALL of who He is and who we’re not. It's a proper perspective to honor and live in AWE of God as Creator of the Heavens and Earth.
Unhealthy fears tend grow within us and can end up holding us hostage to the life God desires. When you let fear run your life, it ruins your life.
“Destructive Fear" the kind of fear that tricks us into believing, beyond what is reasonable, that the world is an ominous and dangerous place. Whispering that we must never risk. *this fear: only sees risks and shrinks back, it never sees reward.

Question:
What would you guess is the most common command in Scriptures?
What would you guess is the most common command in Scriptures?
FEAR NOT...
Lloyd Ogilvie said,
-there are 366 “fear not” verses in the bible – 1 for everyday of the year, including leap year.

Why does God command us not to fear? Why does God tell human beings to stop being afraid more than he tells them anything else? Because one of the greatest things that, stops you from following Jesus closely and keeps you from fulfilling all that God dreams for you…Is FEAR!
fear restricts the adventures of a Godly faith
fear restricts the adventures of a Godly faith
Pursuing your dreams and God's calling for you will always mean facing your fears. But the greater truth is: you never face them alone! Jesus is with you.

There's nothing like feeling helpless; there's nothing like feeling powerless, vulnerable, and exposed. It's so countercultural to how we like to live our lives. The disciples were there in this scenario. They awake him - calling him "Teacher"...by then end of the next few moments...they terrified again, not sure what to refer to him as. Who is this that speaks and commands storms?
Q) where have we lost confidence in Jesus? maybe thinking that he's not BIG enough to speak to your storms of life, your struggles, your fears...
He who is in us, is greater than, he who is in the world around us. "God's hold on you is stronger than your hold on him, and he has no intention of letting you go." Can you believe that he is bigger than your biggest storms and fears?
lean into this truth: the fear and awe of Jesus and what he can do (is greater than) the fear and worry your problems threaten to do.
Quote:
Fear lives and rules in the heart of a believer who has forgotten God’s sovereign authority and powerful grace is present with them, always.

BOTTOM LINE:
fear can have a voice in our lives, but it doesn’t need to have a VOTE or RULE over our lives.
