Big Idea: Distraction is a powerful enemy.

Judges begins with a series of battles that show the Israelites moving into the promised land.

But Israel failed to conquer all of the land, leaving remnants of the people that had inhabited it.

The remnants proved to be a powerful distraction for the Israelites - causing them to break their covenant with the Lord.

Israel loses sight of the Lord though its apostasy.

Judges are appointed by the Lord to rescue them from the brink of disaster and restore them to covenant relationship.

Each judgeship begins with a period of wickedness prior to the appointment of a Judge.

Peace always follows the reign of a Judge, as long as they are obedient.

Takeaway: Distractions can cause us to lose focus - we need to keep our eyes on Jesus.
