THE POWER OF OUR WORDS

Keys to Kingdom living: understanding the power of our words

1. Life and death are in the power of the tongue
- Our words can release death and curse or it can release life and blessing.
- When we take control of our words, we can take back control of our lives.
- Throughout the Bible, especially in the book of Proverbs, we read the warnings of how dangerous careless words can be or how powerful words of wisdom and healing can be.

2. God shows us His creative power by His Words
- 10 Times in Genesis 1 it speaks of "God said", each time something was created from His Words when He spoke.

- "Let there be light, let there be a firmament in the waters, let the waters be gathered together, let dry land appear, let the waters abound" and God verbally blessed them.

- In the beginning, the Word was God and the Word was with God (John 1:1); The entire universe is held up by the command of His Word (Hebrews 1:3).

- God builds with His Word. When God speaks spiritual words of life, there is a natural manifestation that we can see physically.
3. God gives us His Word as a spiritual weapon

- We are fighting a spiritual battle, not flesh and blood.
- God gives us offensive and defense weapons, the Word of God is to be used offensive.
4. How do we fight with the weapon of the Word in our daily lives?

We need to know scripture (God's words of life) and be filled with the Holy Spirit to:

a) Defeat and silence the enemy's lies with truth:

- Go and find scripture that is the truth to combat the lie and speak it back to the enemy.
- Speak it out loud, write it down, meditate on it, until it becomes revelation in your heart.
b) Build each other up in faith:

- How do we speak to others? Our words carry blessing or cursing.
- Children are especially sensitive to words, words carry weight, it can hurt or heal, it can last.
- How do we speak to our spouses?
- How do we speak about our government, leaders, nation?
- Avoid sarcasm: "the use of words that mean the opposite of what you really want to say, especially in order to insult someone, or to show irritation, or just to be funny. Most often, it is biting and intended to cause pain". (Proverbs 26:18)
- We will have to give account for every idle word spoken.
- Our words come from what is inside of our hearts.

- Words can also bless, encourage, build us up, heal us, bring life to us.
- We can greatly minister to one another through our words and from the Word of God.
c) Release operational faith into our lives:

- In Rom 10:10, the Greek word for "confess" is "homologeo", Strongs 3670: to say the same thing as another, to agree with, to concede, not to refuse, not to deny, to declare openly, to praise, to celebrate.
- As children of God, righteous before Him, the Word of God is our gift and our guideline, our promise to what is our inheritance by faith.
- We need to apply the Word in our lives by faith by speaking what we believe, and not what we see in our natural circumstances.
- Declaring / confessing God's promises over our lives and agreeing with Him.
d) Give power to our prayers:

- When we pray God's Word, we pray from a place of victory, authority and power because God's Word cannot return void.
- When we speak God's Word, heaven goes to work on our behalf.

- Like David, we need to trust and have faith in God's promises for us, and we need to prophesy the end result without a doubt!
What is coming out of your mouth today?

What are you speaking over the giants and battles in your life?

It's time to take God at His Word!
