“The Good Life” Sermon Series
“Living the Good Life”
1 Timothy 6:17-19
If we wrongly define the good life we might achieve it or become frustrated by our inability to achieve it…
“I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that it's not the answer.” Jim Carey
The good life is about what we give not what we accumulate
17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
In order to live the good life we have to redefine our relationship with money
The intended audience for this charge is the rich in the present age
With our affluence comes the responsibility to use it for good
The good life requires an unwillingness to become prideful over our affluence
James 1:17 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change
The good life requires an unwillingness to put our hope in money
In the good life we set our hope on God and enjoy life in Him
“Death used to be an executioner, but the gospel has made him just a gardener… Spare not. Do thy worst. All you can do is make me better than before.” George Herbert
Challenge: Remind yourself of Psalm 121:1-2 I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
