Sermon Outline:
Passage: Matthew 12:28
There are times when it seems that nothing is happening. But when nothing is happening something is happening! Sometimes you pray and wait and nothing happens… But while nothing is happening, something is happening! You have a husband/a wife… you have been praying for years/decades… you are waiting for an answer but nothing is happening… You have a rebellious son/daughter… you are waiting for an answer but nothing is happening… But while nothing is happening, something is happening!
Luke 11:20:
But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. The word and tense imply suddenness and surprise. The kingdom of God has indeed caught you unawares (NJB), off guard!
1. The Kingdom Is at Work
Luke 17:21
…the Kingdom of God is within you!
How does the Kingdom of God come within someone? Through the Spirit of God! Through the finger of God!
There is a real battle going on here! There are two kingdoms battling: the Kingdom of its King and the kingdom of someone pretending to be king…
2. The Sinner is Worked Upon
God’s Kingdom can come unto your door! His finger/Spirit can knock at the door! He can insist, but it cannot break into your heart! He respects the door!He needs your will to enter intercessory prayer! Intercessory prayer is when you pray: Your Kingdom come, your will be done in someone else’s life!
Ephesians 6:12
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
The weaponry is different: one kingdom kicks the door; the other Kingdom knocks at the door (God’s finger/Spirit). One uses force; the other uses persuasion!
The accuser can say: wait a minute, where is what you said you gave to man: freewill. Where is his freedom of choice? Did he pray? What should God answer?! It is at this point where intercessory prayer comes into play! This is a matter of universal justice!
When I pray: your will be done in the life of George, the Spirit can keep on knocking at the door, because my prayer becomes God’s argument against accuser! God can say: I am not answering George’s prayer, but I am answering the prayer of this faithful child of mine that loves George and prays for him constantly!
When a believer prays for a sinner, miracles happen. Prayer moves the arm of the Almighty! It moves God’s finger! Do you have a prayer list? Your children, family members, friends, neighbors… are you praying for them?
