RESURRECTION & FIRST FRUIT SUNDAY

MARK 14:22-26

22 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”23 Then He took the cup, and when He had given thanks He gave it to them, and they all drank from it. 24 And He said to them, “This is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many. 25 Assuredly, I say to you, I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” 26 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

· THE HYMN THAT THEY WERE SINGING WAS PSALM 116 IT WAS A SONG OF THANKSGIVING FOR DELIVERANCE FROM DEATH!

· JESUS KNOWING HIS TIME ON EARTH WOULD SOON BE ENDING IN A FINAL SACRIFICE OF LOVE FOR THE REDEMPTION OF MANKIND

· JESUS ANCHORS HIMSELF IN THE WORD OF THE LORD FROM THE PSALMS.

PSALM 16:10-11 NHEB

10For you will not abandon my soul in Sheol, neither will you allow your Holy One to see decay. 11You make known to me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy. In your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

· JESUS ANCHORED HIMSELF IN THE PROMISE THAT HE WOULD NEVER BE ABANDONED TO HELL.

· IT WAS ON THE CROSS THAT THE FATHER WOULD HAVE TO TURN HIS HEAD AS JESUS CRIED “MY GOD MY GOD WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?” THIS WAS ONLY A TEMPORARY.

· JESUS BECAME SIN FOR ALL BY HIS DEATH ON THE CROSS!

GALATIANS 3:13-14

13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us (because it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”) 14 in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles, so that we could receive the promise of the Spirit by faith.

2 CORINTHIANS 5:21 NET

· JESUS PROMISED WE WOULD NEVER HAVE TO FEEL OR EXPERIENCE ABANDONMENT BECAUSE OF HIS SACRIFICE

I love the Lord, because He has heard My voice and my supplications.

And the pangs of Sheol laid hold of me;I found trouble and sorrow.

4 Then I called upon the name of the Lord:“O Lord, I implore You, deliver my soul!”5 Gracious is the Lord, and righteous;

Yes, our God is merciful.6 The Lord preserves the simple;

I was brought low, and He saved me. 7 Return to your rest, O my soul,

For the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. 8 For You have delivered my soul from death, My eyes from tears, And my feet from falling.

9 I will walk before the Lord In the land of the living.

BUT WHY WOULD JESUS WHO WAS SINLESS ALLOW HIMSELF TO BE TAKEN AS A LAMB TO THE SLAUGHTER? (ISAIAH 53)

WHAT WAS MOTIVATING JESUS TO PUT EVERYTHING ON THE LINE FOR MANKIND?

WE KNOW FROM SCRIPTURE THAT ALL THAT JESUS SAID AND DID WAS IN RESPONSE TO THE HONOR AND LOVE HE HAD FOR HIS FATHER AND HIS FATHER HAD FOR HIM.

JOHN 5:19-21 NHEB

19 So Jesus answered them, “I tell you the solemn truth, the Son can do nothing on his own initiative, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, the Son does likewise. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he does, and will show him greater deeds than these, so that you will be amazed. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whomever he wishes.

THE FATHER FROM BEFORE CREATION HAD ALREADY PLANNED OUR REDEMPTION.

REVELATION 13:8B GW

That book belongs to the lamb who was slaughtered before the creation of the world.

EVERY PLAN OR BLUEPRINT IS JUST A DESIGN UNTIL IT IS ACTUALLY EXECUTED OR BUILT.

JESUS AS A TRUE SON WAS WILLING TO DO THE PLAN THAT WAS WRITTEN IN THE SCRIPTURES AND ON HIS HEART.

WHEN JESUS WAS DYING ON THE CROSS LISTEN TO HIS WORDS.

Matthew 27:45-54 TLV

45 Now from the sixth hour, darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour. 46 About the ninth hour Yeshua cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You abandoned Me?”

47 When some of those standing there heard it, they began saying, “This Man is calling for Elijah.” 48 Right away one of them ran and took a sponge. He filled it with sour wine and put it on a stick, and was offering it to Yeshua to drink. 49 But the rest were saying, “Leave Him alone! Let’s see if Elijah comes to save Him.” 50 And Yeshua cried out again with a loud voice and gave up His spirit.

51 And behold, the curtain of the Temple was split in two, from top to bottom. And the earth quaked and rocks were split apart. 52 And the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the kedoshim (saints) who were sleeping were raised to life. 53 And coming forth out of the tombs after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.54 Now the centurion, and those with him keeping guard over Yeshua, when they saw the earthquake and what was happening, they became terribly frightened and said, “This really was the Son of God!”

1. The resurrection of Christ caused the veil that divided and separated the holy and most holy place was ripped from top to bottom

This was a sign from God that all people can have access to the ark of God’s presence and come boldly to His mercy seat & throne of Grace

Hebrews 4:16 TLV

16 Therefore let us draw near to the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help in time of need.

2. The righteous ones living under the old covenant were now being freed from upper sheol known as Abrahams bosom. They came and showed themselves as a witness and testimony in Jerusalem.

This was a sign particularly to the leadership of the Sadducees who believed there was no such thing as a resurrection from the dead.

Hebrews 2:14-15 NLT

Because God's children are human beings--made of flesh and blood--the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death.15 Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.

3. Jesus dealt with death so we who believe in Him should never be afraid to die!

1 john 3:8 ABPE

He who commits sin is from Satan, because Satan is a sinner from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this reason: To destroy the works of Satan. (The Son of God appeared for the purpose of undoing the work of the Devil. WNT)

Jesus resurrection was a Divine Appointment of Breakthrough!

Jesus didn’t just die on any day, He was crucified on the 14th day of Abib or Nissan just like the Passover lamb whose blood covered the houses and protected Israel from the destroyer the angel of death on their last night in Egypt.

Jesus also was raised from the dead on the third day after the Passover known as the feast of first fruits.

Leviticus 23:10-11 LB

9-11 “The Festival of First Fruits: When you arrive in the land I will give you and you reap your first harvest, bring the first sheaf of the harvest to the priest on the day after the Sabbath. He shall wave it before the Lord in a gesture of offering, and it will be accepted by the Lord as your gift.

Jesus rose from the dead as written in Leviticus, on the morrow after the 7th day Sabbath following Passover on the first day of the week.

He was the Firstfruits from the dead. Thus in His resurrection from the dead He fulfilled the Feast of Firstfruits.

Resurrection Sunday came right on the Feast of Firstfruits. This "moed" or "appointed time" had been celebrated, (and foreshadowed), in the Old Covenant.

1 Corinthians 15:20-23 TLV

20 But now Messiah has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also has come through a Man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Messiah will all be made alive. 23 But each in its own order: Messiah the firstfruits; then, at His coming, those who belong to Messiah;

1 Corinthians 15:17-19 NLT

17 And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins. 18 In that case, all who have died believing in Christ are lost! 19 And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world.

Jesus was raised and is your breakthrough over death & sin!

We too have the hope of resurrection and eternal life

Romans 1:2-4 ISV

2Which from the first he had promised by his Prophets in the Holy Scriptures, 3About his Son, who is begotten in the flesh from the seed of the house of David, 4And was revealed The Son of God in power and by the Holy Spirit, who arose from the place of the dead, Yeshua The Messiah, Our Lord.

The bible states the same breakthrough power of the resurrection actually resides in believers today!

Romans 8:11 APBE

And if The Spirit of him who raised our Lord Yeshua The Messiah from among the dead dwells within you, he who raised Yeshua The Messiah from among the dead also will give life to your dying bodies, because of his Spirit who dwells within you.

The spirit of life is in you so strong that the Apostle Paul said he would continually pray that believers would know the power of the resurrected Christ that is in and available to us.

Ephesians 1:19-20 AMP

19 and [so that you will begin to know] what the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His [active, spiritual] power is in us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of His mighty strength 20 which He produced in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places,

THIS IS BREAKTHROUGH POWER!

ANCHOR YOURSELF IN WHAT JESUS HAS DONE, HE WON’T EVER ABANDON YOU
