Trusting God Over Self
Genesis 29
Jacob’s life serves as an example for the need to trust God over self.
Why we can’t completely trust self.
• We are limited in knowledge. (James 4:13-17)
• We are limited in power. (Romans 5:6)
• We are limited by our selfish nature. (James 4:1-3)
• We waver in our resolve. (Romans 7:15)
Why we can trust God over self.
• God is not limited in knowledge. (Psalm 147:5)
• God is not limited in power. (Matthew 19:26)
• God is not limited by a selfish nature. (1 John 4:8; 1 Corinthians 13:5b)
• God always does what he says he is going to do. (Numbers 23:19)
How to trust God.
• Know God
• Be obedient
• Pray
• Be patient
Jacob’s life serves as an example of God’s faithfulness.
What can we learn?
• Trying to do things without God is much more difficult than doing them with him.
• We must exercise trust on a daily basis.
• We must believe that God never gives up on us and is faithful to the end.
