The Unstoppable Church
“Power”
Acts 2

“You cannot escape the results of your thoughts. Whatever your present environment may be, you will fall, remain or rise with your thoughts, your vision, your ideal. You will become as small as your controlling desire; as great as your dominant aspiration.”- James Lane Allen

What were the key ingredients that made the early church so powerful?

1. People who experienced the transforming work of Jesus Christ

14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words.

2. Ordinary people empowered by the Holy Spirit

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

3. New Holy Spirit inspired visions and dreams

17“‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares,that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh,and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions,and your old men shall dream dreams;

4. People willing to reach out to their generation with the message of Jesus Christ

37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”

40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.”

5. People doing life together, focusing on Christ as the center of their community

42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

All the ingredients that made the early church an unstoppable force are present in our church today

Challenge:
