“Decisions 101”
Ephesians 5:15-17

Ephesians 5:15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

The key to making great decisions is understanding God’s will

Ephesians 1:11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will

1 Timothy 2: 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

God’s will is more about who we are than what we are doing

Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

What are the implications for us?
1.We don’t have to live the anxiety of deciphering the mysterious plan of God for our lives
2.We can know we haven’t missed God’s will and are not resigned to a second class life
3.We can be confident that if we saturate our lives with the Scriptures we will gain spiritual success
4.When faced with several good options we can choose and not be paralyzed by uncertainty
5.We can focus more on who we are becoming and trust God will straighten our path

A framework for making decisions:
1.Eliminate options that violate the Scriptures
2.Ask for God’ wisdom (James 1:5) and the Holy Spirit’s help
3.Ask yourself, “What choice will glorify God the most?”
4.Ask yourself, “What is the wise thing to do?”
5.Ask good friends who love God their opinion
6.Choose and trust God will continue to lead you

“If you are the right you, you can follow your desires and you will fulfill God’s will. Again, if you are the right you, if you’re becoming the person God wants you to be you can follow your desires and you will fulfill God’s will.”-John MacArthur
