Scaredy-Cats: Part 2

Scaredy-Cats: Part 2

Tim Haring- We all experience fear. Perhaps it's a fear of heights or a fear of flying. Maybe it's a fear of spiders or a fear of failure. God gave us the ability to be afraid. It can protect us from harm, but it can also be debilitating, and it can keep us from experiencing life. This series will focus on four people from the Old Testament who faced their fears as they eventually learned to trust God.

SCAREDY-CATS: Part 2 [October 1/2, 2016] Tim Haring

Problem: Fear is contagious. Isaac, in his fear, followed his father's example and lied about his wife.

Solution: Remembering God's Faithfulness in the past will help us trust his faithfulness for the future.

Fear: A distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined.
-Dictionary.Com
Give God a chance to be faithful to his promises.
"Unbelief puts our circumstance between us and God, but faith puts God between us and our circumstances."
- F.B. Meyer
If we remember that God has been faithful to us in the past, we will be able to trust him for the future.

Genesis 26:1-6

Genesis 26:7

Genesis 26:8-11

If we remember that God has been faithful to us in the past, we will be able to trust him for the future.

Discussion Questions:

1. Do you think people in the United States are more fearful today than they have been in the past? Explain your answer.

2. What are some of the unique fears that our generation has to face that other generations didn’t?

3. Read Genesis 26:1-6. If Isaac were constantly mindful of God’s promises to him on this occasion, how might it have impacted the way he lived his life?

4. Read Romans 8:28-32. How would it impact our lives if we believed these verses were true of us?

5. Read Genesis 26:7-11. Why do you think Isaac felt the need to lie on this occasion? What could have happened because of this lie?

6. The point of the message this past week was, “Remembering God has been faithful to us in the past will help us trust him for the future.” Have you find this to be true in your own life? Can you give an example?

7. What are some things we can do to remind us of how God has been faithful to us in the past so that we might trust him for the future?

8. How might you apply tonight’s lesson to your life?

Miss a weekend?
