Faith That Runs

Key Scripture: Hebrews 12:1-3

Have you ever run a long-distance race? The start is exciting, but as time goes on, fatigue sets in, distractions come, and finishing the race takes endurance. Faith is the same—it’s not a sprint, but a marathon.

Hebrews 12:1-3 compares our faith journey to a race. The passage encourages us to run with endurance, keeping our focus on Jesus. The Christian life isn’t about a quick burst of faith—it’s about lasting through every season.

The first key to endurance is to lay aside every weight and sin that slows us down (Hebrews 12:1). Imagine a runner carrying a heavy backpack. How far could they go? In the same way, we must remove distractions, doubts, and sins that keep us from running well. Maybe that’s fear, comparison, or past failures. Whatever it is, God calls us to let it go.

The second key is to fix our eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2). Runners don’t look at their feet—they focus on the finish line. When life gets tough, we must keep our eyes on Jesus, not our circumstances. He is the author and perfecter of our faith, meaning He started our journey and will lead us to the finish.

Finally, we endure by remembering Christ’s example (Hebrews 12:3). Jesus endured the cross because of the joy set before Him—our salvation! When we face challenges, we can look to His victory and find strength to keep going.

Faith isn’t about starting well, it’s about finishing strong. Keep running. Keep believing. God is with you every step of the way.
