WEEK TWO: LOVE PEOPLE PASSIONATELY

Day Nine

Christianity stands apart from all other faiths for many reasons; one of those is that God measures more on why we do rather than what we do. God looks at our hearts. (Jeremiah 17:10)

Paul says that we could give away all we possess and gain nothing if the motive isn’t right. The truth is people give from all kinds of motives. They give to get, to gain favour, to be seen, or in the hope they will feel better about themselves. For us, love must be our motive in all things.

Take a moment today to reflect not so much on what you do but on why you do it. Ask God for discernment, to reveal your heart to you, and to lead you in refinement, doing all things out of a heart of love. Pray like David in Psalm 139:23-24: “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (NIV)
