Live Out Loud
Bilingual families are truly amazing. Even the littlest ones can hop between two languages as needed to express themselves. It’s an incredible gift to the child to learn it by practice and absorption at a young age.
If you want to teach your children to be citizens in the kingdom of God, you've got to teach them the language. The best way for them to learn is by hearing it daily. And they can only hear it if you speak it!
Parents often teach their little ones numbers and words by counting with them and reading to them. Parents can also teach their children to follow Jesus when they live their faith out loud. Speak aloud when speaking to Jesus. Pray for the people involved when an ambulance screams by. Talk about what God is teaching you in your devotional time. Discuss what you picked up from the sermon on the car ride home from church. When you’re struggling, let your kids hear you ask the Lord for help. And when joy comes, make sure the kids hear you thank the Lord!
And don’t ever forget the power of the Word of God—the Scripture. When your kids read and memorize Bible verses, they are doing more than just being good Sunday School students. They are hiding the living Word of God in their hearts, preparing them to face life with God both now and in the future! So take the time to read the Bible with them this week.
God gave his Law to Jacob’s descendants, the people of Israel. And he told our ancestors to teach their children, so that each new generation would know his Law and tell it to the next. Then they would trust God and obey his teachings, without forgetting anything God had done.
Psalm 78:5-7 (CEV)
You can give no greater gift to your child than your example as a godly parent. Your kids can learn from you even in your failures if you live out loud.
PRAY
Lord, it is a big task to teach these mini-mes. Please show me how to teach them your ways. Thank you for being involved in every part of our lives. Amen.
