Psalms 97:1-7
Psalms 97:1-8 The Message (MSG)
GOD rules: there’s something to shout over! On the double, mainlands and islands—celebrate! Bright clouds and storm clouds circle ’round him; Right and justice anchor his rule. Fire blazes out before him, Flaming high up the craggy mountains. His lightnings light up the world; Earth, wide-eyed, trembles in fear. The mountains take one look at GOD And melt, melt like wax before earth’s Lord. The heavens announce that he’ll set everything right, And everyone will see it happen—glorious! All who serve handcrafted gods will be sorry— And they were so proud of their ragamuffin gods!
Psalms 97:1-7 King James Version (KJV)
The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; Let the multitude of isles be glad thereof. Clouds and darkness are round about him: Righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne. A fire goeth before him, And burneth up his enemies round about. His lightnings enlightened the world: The earth saw, and trembled. The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, At the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens declare his righteousness, And all the people see his glory. Confounded be all they that serve graven images, That boast themselves of idols: Worship him, all ye gods.
Psalms 97:1-7 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; Let the many islands be glad. Clouds and thick darkness surround Him; Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him And burns up His adversaries round about. His lightnings lit up the world; The earth saw and trembled. The mountains melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, At the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens declare His righteousness, And all the peoples have seen His glory. Let all those be ashamed who serve graven images, Who boast themselves of idols; Worship Him, all you gods.
Psalms 97:1-7 New Century Version (NCV)
The LORD is king. Let the earth rejoice; faraway lands should be glad. Thick, dark clouds surround him. His kingdom is built on what is right and fair. A fire goes before him and burns up his enemies all around. His lightning lights up the world; when the people see it, they tremble. The mountains melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens tell about his goodness, and all the people see his glory. Those who worship idols should be ashamed; they brag about their gods. All the gods should worship the LORD.
Psalms 97:1-7 American Standard Version (ASV)
Jehovah reigneth; let the earth rejoice; Let the multitude of isles be glad. Clouds and darkness are round about him: Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. A fire goeth before him, And burneth up his adversaries round about. His lightnings lightened the world: The earth saw, and trembled. The mountains melted like wax at the presence of Jehovah, At the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens declare his righteousness, And all the peoples have seen his glory. Let all them be put to shame that serve graven images, That boast themselves of idols: Worship him, all ye gods.
Psalms 97:1-7 New International Version (NIV)
The LORD reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice. Clouds and thick darkness surround him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. Fire goes before him and consumes his foes on every side. His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all peoples see his glory. All who worship images are put to shame, those who boast in idols— worship him, all you gods!
Psalms 97:1-7 New King James Version (NKJV)
The LORD reigns; Let the earth rejoice; Let the multitude of isles be glad! Clouds and darkness surround Him; Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. A fire goes before Him, And burns up His enemies round about. His lightnings light the world; The earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the LORD, At the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens declare His righteousness, And all the peoples see His glory. Let all be put to shame who serve carved images, Who boast of idols. Worship Him, all you gods.
Psalms 97:1-7 Amplified Bible (AMP)
The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; Let the many islands and coastlands be glad. Clouds and thick darkness surround Him [as at Sinai]; Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. [Ex 19:9] Fire goes before Him And burns up His adversaries on all sides. His lightnings have illuminated the world; The earth has seen and trembled. The mountains melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, At the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens declare His righteousness, And all the peoples see His glory and brilliance. ¶Let all those be [deeply] ashamed who serve carved images, Who boast in idols. Worship Him, all you gods! [Heb 1:6]
Psalms 97:1-7 New Living Translation (NLT)
The LORD is king! Let the earth rejoice! Let the farthest coastlands be glad. Dark clouds surround him. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. Fire spreads ahead of him and burns up all his foes. His lightning flashes out across the world. The earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim his righteousness; every nation sees his glory. Those who worship idols are disgraced— all who brag about their worthless gods— for every god must bow to him.
Psalms 97:1-7 The Passion Translation (TPT)
YAHWEH now reigns as King! Let everyone rejoice! His rule extends everywhere, even to distant lands, and the islands of the sea, let them all be glad. Clouds both dark and mysterious now surround him. His throne of glory rests upon a foundation of righteousness and justice. All around him burns a blazing glory-fire consuming all his foes. When his lightning strikes, it lights up the world. People are wide-eyed as they tremble and shake. Mountains melt away like wax in a fire when the Lord of all the earth draws near. Heaven’s messengers preach righteousness, and people everywhere see God’s glory in the sky! Shame covers all who boast in other gods, for they worship idols. For all the supernatural powers once worshiped the true and living God.
Psalms 97:1-7 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad! Clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. Fire goes before him and burns up his adversaries all around. His lightnings light up the world; the earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all the peoples see his glory. All worshipers of images are put to shame, who make their boast in worthless idols; worship him, all you gods!
